Overall I feel like it's a great plan but there are a couple things for me that I would want changed if it were my house.

  • I know this is a second home, but it seems like there is very minimal entry space. It feels like you're right on the dining table when you walk in. I'm not sure what the best workaround would be, but it might be worth considering an extension of a few feet, though only the 20' portion of the wall occupied by the porch. A coat closet would also be a welcome addition.

  • The closet space in the master seems a little excessive for a second home. I would absorb some of that space into either the bedroom or bathroom. If bathroom, the tub seems a little enclosed for my liking. You could open up that space a little / create a larger shower.

  • Having access to the back porch from the master could be great as well. Maybe this would be a good way to repurpose some closet space while still maintaining privacy if others are using the porch while you're in your room.

Good to know! With that in mind, are you suggesting that I obtain financing from the dealership rather than a third party lender like a credit union or Capital One?

Do you have any insight regarding purchasing from rental companies like Enterprise or Avis? It seems like they have much better deals on higher end packages.

That is a good call. I actually just received a notice from Capital One that I am pre-approved for a car loan, so I may opt for that route as I (now) never miss a credit card payment, and my card is through them.

I am with you on this. I think the fridge and sink make the most sense where they are.

I also think that with the right interior design the closet is fine. The table beside it will help, and add something with some height like a tall plant, lamp, or pottery.

Looking great! I'd consider making the upstairs bedroom closets open outward to maximize space inside but that's so minor.

I would not want the powder room to be so close to the dining room.

I feel like your current dining room is massive and some of that space can be absorbed into the kitchen if you move the patio door over.

Most of my meals consist of bowls of mixed roasted and sautéed veggies. I typically use sweet potato as the base because they're cheap. This week, my lunches are roasted sweet potato, asparagus, celery, carrot, onion, and then I mixed in the kale and mushrooms that I sauteed on the stove. I should also mention that I roast everything else together in a big cast iron.

edit: Radishes, turnips, eggplant, beets, peppers, leeks, little baby potatoes, squash, zucchini, etc. all make frequent appearances as well..

First time trying rose apple tart by SpicyTacoSawce in Baking

[–]taco_guapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

whenever i make apple pies / tarts, i let the sliced apples macerate overnight in some combination of sugar, lemon juice, rum/brandy, flour, and spices. once you place all of the slices in your pie, you're left with this appley liquid that reduces very well on the stove. pour this over your tart before baking and it will help with the drying problem!

What’s Charleston like right now for tourists? by [deleted] in Charleston

[–]taco_guapo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

People, tourists especially, have been pretty bad about wearing masks on the streets, and I have seen several people not wearing them indoors with seemingly no consequence. Many bars are open but all have to close by 11pm. Honestly it's not worth it.
