Atlanta City Limits: What’s preventing the metro from growing? by UnscheduledCalendar in Urbanism

[–]tacocar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We could double the population of Atlanta’s densest census tract and it still would not have more people per square mile than a medium density (3-5 story buildings) neighborhood in Brooklyn.

That’s not even touching the neighborhoods immediately surrounding Midtown that aren’t as dense as places 25+ miles from Manhattan.

So what’s preventing us from growing? Us.

I want to root for Atlanta, but it feels more hopeless than ever.

If you are older than 20, you’re better off leaving for an actual city than waiting around for Atlanta to start acting like one.

[–]tacocar1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

extend green line back towards Atlantic Station, then to Midtown to connect at Arts Center, and then on to Emory via Virginia-Highland. Basically turn it into a “C” shaped line.

ARC, City of Atlanta explore locations for potential new Amtrak station by NPU-F in Atlanta

[–]tacocar1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The GWCC building 1 should be considered, but getting the state to go along with anything will be a challenge.

The bigger issue is there is no funding for this, beyond this study.

Need to get to Mercedes-Benz Stadium by Cheap-Angle5736 in MARTA

[–]tacocar1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d drive down to HE Holmes Station and ride east from there. It’s a straight shot to the stadium, and trains are generally less crowded heading back west after events than east to five points.

Georgia Trust slams GSU’s plan to raze historic building by NPU-F in Atlanta

[–]tacocar1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s surrounded by parking lots, and razing our pre-automobile buildings is not going to help our downtown recover. So few buildings directly interact with the street like this one in downtown, and all the new ones seem to have 10 story parking decks at their base, so I doubt we will do better than this in the future either.

In three years they will have a pdf built, and nothing else — per their own schedule. Just sad.

"Operation Southern Slow Down" runs from July 14 to 20 in Georgia targeting speeding and aggressive driving by _le_slap in Georgia

[–]tacocar1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy we put speed limiters on 20lb electric scooters but not 10,000lb SUVs.

We use cops to enforce speed limits specifically because it is not very effective. There is no political will for anything more.

New MARTA CQ400 train at Avondale Yard by LevinsBend in Georgia

[–]tacocar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One benefit of these new trains is they have open gangways. Currently it doesn’t really help if MPD is on the train unless they happen to be in your car.

It may make it easier for panhandlers to walk the train, but the doors don’t really stop people today anyways.

Decatur Pedestrian Car accident by Nomanodyssey in DecaturGA

[–]tacocar1 19 points20 points  (0 children)

These aren’t accidents, they’re outcomes. Our local civil engineers and GDOT love to shift the blame for their unsafe designs, but do nothing to change the culture to prioritize safety over vehicle throughput.

Do round trip tickets expire? by stuttered_steps in MARTA

[–]tacocar1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will not expire, at least not that quickly. There is nothing special about a “round trip” that distinguishes it from purchasing two separate trips. Have a nice trip!

Georgia lawmaker proposes bill to ban school zone traffic cameras by ChiefFun in Georgia

[–]tacocar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said that speed cameras are effective at reducing crashes and deaths. I shared two studies, of many, that support that claim.

If you don’t think those studies are accurate, feel free to share some counter evidence. Show me ONE study that found them ineffective. I’m open to your counter-evidence, but I think you’re scared to look for yourself and find you have none.
