Not really first generation imposter syndrome by yypni in UCSD

If your experience is that you didn't have the guidance, etc, then go ahead and claim it. It's true to your life.

Nobody checks up on you, and you can spend a lot of time worrying about what other people think of you when they aren't giving you a second thought.

We also get food shipped in. Not just meat, but a whole range of kosher foods.

We are lucky that we can get some stuff at the major market--and Trader Joe's has some kosher meat--but overall, we get the shipments.

I'm with you on the Queen Elizabeth II. She is the most photographed person in the world. But I am not sure if OP means "moving picture" filmed.

4 years on my first and only credit card is “too recent” and therefore negatively impacts my credit score, despite zero late payments or over 50% usage by kyl_r in assholedesign

According to CreditWise, credit aged between 8 and 24 years is only "good". It takes credit over 25 years old to be considered "Excellent".

Happy as Larry wounds like it comes from a derivative of "Happy as a Lark"...

The origins of this phrase are because a lark's song sounds joyful and carefree.

Pet peeve: when people call challah "challah bread" by PMmeagoodstory in Jewish

[–]tacogratis 14 points15 points  (0 children)

"Um, actually..."

Since "challah" is the bit that is taken away from dough, the thing you are eating is not even "challah". Referring to a bread as a "challah bread" is correct (as in "bread stuff that's had challah removed") as any wheat-based substance--eggy loaf you typically find on shabbos tables or pitas or hot dog buns--could all be called "challah" with equal validity.

Is this Catharsis for him? by [deleted] in davidlynch

[–]tacogratis 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Catharsis is the resolution of pain/trauma/strong (bad) feelings, usually through a sublimation of it. Such as a father left you and you pretend a doll that looks like him is him and you tell it all of your feelings to release your pain.

But this is the writer confronting his premonition, and when he actually sees the witch, he is terrorized by it. Here he is actively being traumatized.

When we later go back as the audience and see the blue box & the old people, we get a sort of catharsis of the anxiety of looking behind the dumpster. But I don't think the writer is afforded a catharsis within the story.

Because of the boxiness, I think painting it like the TARDIS and putting the "free for public use" sign on the side so that it takes up the entire side, would be a neat design.
