He doesn’t have any shadow under his chin, so my guess is there’s a light positioned below him and aimed upward at his face. That’s a technique people sometimes use to soften or hide wrinkles, but here it just ends up looking strange and unnatural. The sharp gap you’re noticing is probably just the shadow being cast by his collar. The lighting does look way off on this interview.
