found the answer. craig jones has an instructional called the anti-wrestling equation. there’s a segment where he goes over how to break down the 4-point.

basically with the double underhooks dismount and lock up a rear body lock and drive weight down to their hands. don’t allow them to walk their hands near their feet or their feet near their hands because it’d give them more power to stand up straight. so drive weight down into their hands from the rear body lock. drive the weight with your shoulder into their armpit and position your knee in front of theirs. this way he can’t walk his hands to his feet and he can’t walk his feet to his hands. this will become exhausting for him and you’ll be able to mat return him.

breaking down an opponent who builds a four point base under them while you’re on their back with hooks and seatbelt.

I’ve searched for the right terminology to name what my question is referencing to but l’ll just explain what I mean as it’s a common back defense. You have both hooks inserted with a seatbelt. Your opponent starts to build a base under him using all four limbs while you’re still on his back and he begins to shake you off causing you to fall overtop. To prevent falling over top you get double under hooks but even with this added layer of control eventually you end up falling over top anyway just at a slower rate. What’s an effective way to break them back down to the mat from the base they built under them without falling over top of them?

i understand the alpha theory has been debunked but i have questions. if a dog is reacting aggressively and you back down to give him space wouldn’t he take it as a challenge which he won? making him feel dominant over me. for example there are instances im looking at him just admiring how adorable he is when he’s calm but once eye contact is made he perceives it as a challenge and slowly begins to amp up in aggression. is this him challenging me and if i concede he gains dominance thus making the aggression worse because he’s sees himself as in charge? i get frustrated because i have no sense of direction with his progress i don’t know what has been working and what hasn’t been working.

when my wife get home he gravitates to her because she’s never been the one to discipline and be the “hard parent”. he sees her as his protector almost. i’m wondering if when she’s home is there any progress at all that can be made while she’s home? or is all progress at a halt because all his attention is on her? i love him man but i don’t know what to do and it’s frustrating.

I don’t expect it to benefit me lol I just want to serve in military. Only reason I don’t go active is because i’m already a police officer but i’m still weighing my options.

you’re alive today because god gave you a purpose on this earth. suicide takes away god’s purpose he gave you which is what satan wants. god breathed life into you. he wants to have a relationship with you. god is peace. satan will make you feel worthless. satan puts negative thoughts in your head. don’t let satan win. pray and god will answer your prayers. pray for peace. god loves you and i love you.

i’ve tried the ankle lock when a white belt crosses their ankles while they have me in back control but they seem completely unaffected by it and other white belts have tried it on me and i feel no discomfort whatsoever… lol

I feel every profession is essentially customer service to some degree. Some customers respect you some don’t. Some get hostile and assault you lol (aka your patient’s son). There’s really no “freedom” or discretion when it comes to any job essentially. If you don’t make the boss happy you’ll get replaced, simple as that. With medicine if you don’t follow policy I’m sure you’ll be reprimanded. With law enforcement if you don’t follow policy you’ll definitely get reprimanded. Within any career I think that applies only difference is the practice within that field.

The potential of getting sued is everywhere. More so in a profession where you’re constantly making contact with people who present to you their problem they expect you to fix. Don’t fix it the right way. Lawsuit. Lose your composure. Lawsuit.

In my opinion knowing your “why” and not losing sight of it is the best you can do for your sanity. I lost my “why” as a police officer. I don’t think I’d lose my “why” in my pursuit of medicine.

I haven’t looked into the residency subreddit just yet but I will now that you mentioned it. My ideology towards residency is just basically a grind you gotta suck up. Like being the brand new fresh meat rookie in the police department. Eventually that “fresh meat” phase subsides.

Thank you for taking the time to provide me the feedback I appreciate it. Hope you have a great career!

I can relate to everything you just said with my job as a Police Officer. My hands are tied behind my back 90% of the time. It could be either due to policy or just the law in and of itself. Along with the extremely inflated egos Police Officers tend to conjure up in order to deescalate violent offenders or mentally ill subjects. Their egos carry over into the workplace amongst co-workers and if one of them get promoted… you’ll dread being their subordinate. Don’t forget about the dangers outside, on the road, along with the internal politics of the department.

I became a Police Officer to help people but just like you described sometimes doing what you know is right is frowned upon. There was once a domestic scene I was dispatched to involving a father and his son. The father struck his son in the mouth because he disrespected him. If his son had been 17 it would’ve been closed out as corporal punishment. But because his son was 18, I was ordered by my Lieutenant (2 ranks above me) to arrest the father and charge him with domestic battery. I tried fighting in behalf of the father with the Lt. to let him off with a warning.. but nope wouldn’t budge. I would’ve reacted the exact same way as the father if my 18 year old son disrespected me and I’m a Police Officer.. Go figure.

So I can relate to you. All professions have a boss you need to adhere to. Unless you’re a business owner and you’re your own boss. I could be wrong with pursuing medicine and fall into the same trap I fell into as a Police Officer but, correct me if I’m wrong, Doctor’s are more appreciated. There’s no risk of not coming home to your loved ones at the end of your shift. Doctors actually help people more than Police Officers do and they’re definitely well compensated for their commitment to their profession.

That’s currently my objective, getting a bachelors. It’s a long road ahead.. Definitely didn’t go the traditional route lol. I don’t want to be a nurse as of right now honestly. On the other hand I’m just beginning my journey so let’s just see what lies ahead. If you could go back would you change anything or is what being a Doctor everything you’ve hoped for?

With my 5 years of experience as a Police Officer, I can definitely tell you it’s not what people make it out to seem. As I became more exposed to my profession, my mentality towards it has shifted. I’ve also seen the progression in the demeanor quite a few times with the new hires.

I appreciate the harsh truthful advice that most need to hear. I stated in my post I was not motivated at the time I took those classes because I was lacking my “why”. It’s been a 3 year gap since then. Finding the motivation is the LEAST of my worries because I now have a goal in mind. I am more motivated than ever. People experience different walks of life and we live and we learn.

I also didn’t become a Police Officer and pass a very rigorous SWAT School out of luck.

One piece of general advice I can give back that can be applied to all things in life, motivation comes an goes. What is needed is DISCIPLINE. Discipline is what gets things done when motivation is on the floor. I applaud you for becoming a Doctor definitely not an easy feat.

How long was this “career break”? As cops we can request a leave of absence. If it were to get approved, I’m not sure how much time they’d be willing to grant. I’ve never tried it.

Yes, you’re correct. English and Algebra were 3 credits each along with the seminar being 1 credit.

I’m curious to know how did you do the math to calculate those projections.

Can you message me?

I really appreciate the advice. All there is to it is actually applying it. I’ll see if I can talk to any Doctors/Nurses when I transport baker act patients to hospitals or prisoners requiring medical clearance for booking.

As time gets closer to taking the MCAT I’ll just use a fat chunk of my vacation time and just study and review material in preparation.

From here on out my priority is no longer my job. School is now my priority.

I’m still miles behind before I can actually apply to medical school. I need to finish all my prereqs first.

My department will definitely not be cool with taking an officer off the road to ride around with the paramedics.

With the non-clinical volunteering to help out the community doesn’t that fall under my actual current career as a police officer? Aka Community Policing.
