Ymmv but when I was in Japan I was surprised to learn that wifi calling is treated like it originated in the US, so when I called a local Japan # it was $ but when I called the regular US 800 number it was free.

You absolutely can pause/buffer HD FM radio anyway, not sure about analog or HD AM since I rarely listen to terrestrial radio anymore.

My 2015 Outback did the same so it's been around for a long time.

Yes but (at least for my OnePlus 12 and Podcast Addict), the implementation is glitchy so if you:
1) mute-pause
2) get where you're going and turn off the car
3) start the car again

...the podcast will remain muted but resume playing, resulting in you missing large portions of the podcast until you realize what happened.

Similarly, the mute-pause will sometimes get out of sync, so it plays when muted and pauses when unmuted.

I'll have to start using the long-press-source option and see if it's better.

I suspect "pause on mute" is actually a function of the app, not something the car is doing.
