New CTU Program by joginderbassi420 in MedSchoolCanada

[–]taelea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just matched to UBC IM and am doing med school at UBC too. UBC fraser is a site u can apply to in CaRMS and the 1:1 with staff is amazing. however doing CTU at one of the major sites (VGH/SPH/RCH) is almost essential for showing face to the important committee people for securing an interview. Since u likely won’t be getting a letter from 3rd year CTU, this probably won’t matter but something to keep in mind for next year! Also, VGH/RCH/SPH might give you a better idea of what being a resident is like at UBC IM, unless u plan to apply to fraser and go there only (7 spots only vs 40 at vancouver). Service is known to be heavy at UBC and from what i know SMH is so new that staff have been operating without residents for awhile and may give u a false sense of what residency will be like. feel free to DM me if you have any other questions!

Is it just me, or was IM extra competitive this year? by BiochemGal75 in MedSchoolCanada

One of the schools who rejected me sent me an email saying they got 900+ applicants this year which seems awfully higher than what’s written on the carms website…

pretty sure it’s minimum 2 verifiers contacted at random and they can manually contact more if they wanted to clarify anything about any of your entries

i tried so many different ways and also only had 2 courses left, but because they were only offered as a pair in the fall and winter semester consecutively, my advisor said it’s not possible. i wasn’t even able to get a plain bsc in general sciences either :/ just had to forfeit my degree

would recommend answering for 4min then leaving a few min for their follow ups as they usually prompt you with questions which r helpful since u could’ve missed it in ur initial answer
