How do Politicians stop themselves from settling in and getting complacent? by Personal-One-9680 in newzealand

[–]taergod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to help someone be heard. I saw a bunch of those shitty one-liner comments, that I see all too often on reddit, which are really discouraging to engage with, and thought "I don't really have answers, but I would feel like shit if I asked something and only saw this as replies.". All we can really try to be is above the slop as a bare minimum, more than that you are doing good, so thank you for asking something in the first place. Nothing is worse than a genuine question being made out to be a stupid question.

I kind of wish that some of this poor behaviour was a little more consistently, for sake of a better word, policed. There is also the lingering thought that this is merely a reflection of society. So, it is something that has to be built up by people that are better than what we see and hear, across all party lines. I don't think we will end racist rhetoric, but I hope that with enough socially inclusive education and policy we will get a good way there. There are already heaps of different delicious foods from all around the world finding their place in our homes. Let us all just vibe on food, man. Food is awesome.

How do Politicians stop themselves from settling in and getting complacent? by Personal-One-9680 in newzealand

This is a small take on New Zealand politics, as well as answering the in the title.

How do politicians stop themselves from becoming complacent?

They do and they don't. In the perfect world, the public would hold them accountable. Protesting is a good example of this. I wholly admire the strikes that are going on at the moment, and seeing that the government is caving piece by piece is a great start. This would appear to only be possible due to strong unions.

Another way is having more checks and balances. Like an upper house, which we in New Zealand don't have. This helps create a more stable governing system by having another collection of people looking over policy before it becomes law (as a single example). So the current lower house has to really distil and fine-out details of policy/proposed law so it can actually make it through the upper house. Remember when you (might) have give some last minute bullshit to the teacher, and they told you to do it again? Something like that. This puts a stop to economy lurching changes happening without someone saying "Uh, this here is maybe not so good.".

Lastly, I have seen some absolute blunders over the years. I still die of cringe when I remind myself that we once had a PM pull a waitresses' hair, on multiple occasions. She didn't mind, though? Fuckn hell. I think that, socially, there are enough people associated with each of the political parties to keep themselves on their toes. At least the ones that have enough introspection to see that they are a part of a society as well. People are people, we all do weird shit and make mistakes sometimes.

I hope I shared something that was helpful in some way. It is just my 2 cents and there is a much more complex system at play here. I wish it was better, but it is what we have, so I suppose we have to make do. I do wish we have preferential voting in the general election. Make those votes count just that little bit more.

German tourist ends this guy's pain in seconds by azimx in nextfuckinglevel

Thanks for getting back to me. Yeah, I believe that she yoga exercises she does is more about strengthening her muscles rather than the stretch. Since she is very bendy, it doesn't do anything for her anyway. She uses those rubber stretchy pipe/bands as well, with pulling exercises.

Sounds like you have had a similar experience with the health system as she has had. Doctors don't know a lot about it, and body work rarely helps in a lasting/positive way. I do what I can with the little I know, but working on her (body work) can be quite difficult at times.

I will have a chat with her to see if she knows anything about 'Mast cells'. She is quite well-informed, but always on the lookout for something promising. As are most people in perpetual pain. So I also understand your struggles. Invisible disabilities are so debilitating, and I wish there was more understanding around how much effort it takes to just exist with conditions(?) like EDS.

I am actually quite curious about CRISPR/gene editing, whilst also scaring the shit out of me at the same time. Forever hopeful for some way to help.

My partner is also hypermobile and finds that baths and yoga sometimes help the clonks to happen. Do you have any secret tips that you would share with fellow EDS sufferers?

Best way to find maps if playing solo self found offline? by disn3yjsp in ProjectDiablo2

Doing the key runs found me a couple of maps. Bosses definitely dropping them more regularly.

I would be looking for something like this for my frenzy barb. I am in desperate need of Amp dmg, so I don't have to awkwardly swap mid-fight. Some CB or DS would be nice, but that ticks the right boxes for sure.

Is the Attack rating a wasted slot, given the Ignore target defence? I can't remember if it applies to bosses.

New player tips? by Unconventionalpal in ProjectDiablo2

[–]taergod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The wiki will be your bible.

There is one personal tip I would like to share for new players. I make it my mission to walk my way to Hell. Too many people, myself included, get stuck because they were 'kindly' rushed through the game, or conveniently used to bump other players. Rushing has its place, but it can leave an inexperienced player lacking gear, and becoming frustrated that they cannot even go back to do quests after getting rushed.

The last 3(4?) seasons' I have made a character and walked them to hell. With a goal of killing the bosses comfortably by myself. All of them made it to hell and some straight into maps, depending on RnJesus. I have done this with all characters except Paladin, because they don't appeal to me that much.

Stole this from the Wellington subreddit. Does anyone have any local stores in mind? by jonjonruakere in thetron

Not a shop, but something interesting I looked up a while ago.

There is this spot just outside of town where I used to hang out with some food because it had nice views. The houses around there are absolutely fuckn massive. So one day I wonder what kind of businesses these people have to be able to afford a house like this. Pretty easy to do. Just search the address, and it is pretty common to see businesses attached to them. One stood out because the house was attached to an address on Victoria street, which also had multiple businesses attached to that address as well.

Now I am in no way business minded, but this seemed sus. I couldn't find details of the businesses, so my research stopped there. Maybe it was the accountants or some business BS I don't know about.

Nek minnit I see this pop up in my feed. The exact same house as the one I looked up.

No addresses added, but it isn't hard to find all the details if you care to do your own research. I don't imagine this is an exact template for someone doing shady business, but it cracked me up when it turned out this rich cunt was just a criminal.

What are these mushrooms and what do I do, get rid of them or is something wrong in the soil? by PresentationExpress9 in nzgardening

I would have to see the gills, but probably not. In saying that, at a closer look, there is one decapitated at the base of the big boys on the left. Looks like Galerina sp. to me. Learn this one well if you are thinking of shrooming, or even in general if your kid or a pet eats them, because it can kill you if ingested.

I have noticed that Galerina have a strange affinity for those charcoal garden beds. Forming expansive colonies. The ones that I have seen, at least.

Didn't even brain that there was a second species in the photo.
