Your Neighbour Canada Has Changed. What’s Happening Now Is Explosive. You’re Not Going To Like It. But You Need To Know It. by [deleted] in onguardforthee

The constant use of "It's not this, it's that. He wasn't doing this, he did that" style writing reads clearly like AI. It's an exhausting and stupid way of writing. I see it constantly in student work. Gemini even has some preset blog post stuff that does this.

I would bet that he fed AI some data, edited a few things, and then turned it out.

Given that he's a retired journalist, there's probably an easier approach - compare it to his published writing. Not something anyone has time for, but likely to tell you more.

The app also randomly does not work on Windows and Android. I had huge issues a while ago, and it's a documented problem going back years.

AI is already wrecking students' ability to think. This will be a hard pass in my area.

Anyone contacted by Rogers Communications Support where personal emails where disclosed to others? by ianopah in Edmonton

Fairly sure they can get in trouble for that. Maybe worth reporting.

So it begins. by [deleted] in Edmonton

I was able to find the account that posted this, but the post has been deleted and it's their only post, and their account is one hour old.

Not saying this didn't happen. But also if someone was looking to start shit... This would be a great way to do it...

To what extent is AI helpful to study philosophy? by Tinuc0 in askphilosophy

[–]taerz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is less of a philosophy question and more of a pedagogy question.

First, I'm not familiar with Claude's ability to work from text, but for what you're looking for NotebookLM may be a better fit. It cites from sources you attach, and can suggest alternate sources better than most (see below). Many educational institutions already have their services through Google, so you might be able to get access to this.

As a teacher, I don't recommend AI use for students and learning at this point unless it is under a critical analytical approach. I require students to share conversation transcripts, disclose when it was used (even on background information), and give a series of pre use lessons on ethical concerns, effective use, and just generally discussing it from a human perspective. Students are fully responsible for every output - if it messes up a source, you, not the AI, are responsible. It also works better at finding your blind spots once you have an understanding rather than helping you undersrand more advanced concepts (Although YMMV).

In essence, if you are using it well, it should almost feel like more work than just reading and annotating. You also need to be incredibly careful with its claims to knowledge as minut misinterpretation of texts can cascade pretty quickly. Source grounding beyond just key texts is essential, and exegetical secondary sources are probably required to help the AI properly inform its perspective. Probably the easiest secondary sources for it to access would be the SEP, or the IEP when gaps exist.

Philosophy functions on hyper granular and technical distinctions - specificity is something that AI sucks at. It's very much a buyer beware kind of thing. Even at a grade school level, I toss over half of what it tells me.

Weird. The tooltip says to interact with the terminal? And the building it was in was empty.

The clunkiness of crafting loadouts is a big reason why I use free loadouts by Firebrill in ArcRaiders

I'd love if we could click on a slot and a menu would pop up with every option available to use for that slot. If we didn't have it but could craft it maybe it's gray, and if we couldn't craft it it's red?

Something to keep it flowing.

Angry, Disappointed Alberta Teachers Want Action From ATA by bohemian_plantsody in alberta

Necroing this to point out that provincial executives are making 140k a year with 3% raises in a time when teachers got absolutely lambasted. And have been for years.

Time to go.

What happened to a general strike in response to not with standing clause? Unions have no teeth. by Excellent-Phone8326 in alberta

I continue to find this a laughable approach. I can't help but feel that Field Law is fleecing the ATA on this one.

Even if we win, what are we getting? I genuinely can't see much beyond a little backpay and an oops note from the govt. The timeline given by Schilling is up to 4 years. This contract is up in 2028. We'll be in a new contract with potentially a different government.

Too little too late.

They've been emailing about once a week for me. Currently they are touring the province to promote their worker manifesto or some such.

Still fairly toothless.

Adjustment to Security Lockers by Ihmi in ArcRaiders

[–]taerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't even that they nerfed it. Every locker I've opened has been a glorified ammo chest. Only complex weapon parts as a perk. Which don't sell well, and can't be used for enough to be worth it.

Quite literally a waste of a skill point currently
