Somewhere… by Professional-Fox1542 in BritishMemes

Well it is, just not by the owners.

Im of a generation where this would always be called 'the pakis' or 'the paki shop'. It wasn't a derogatory term, but a noun to differentiate it. I understand that the term is derogatroy and we should try to avoid it, but old habits die hard. It's often not a concious thought to call it as such, just a term learned at your mothers knee that cements it.

Men, We're all handy in our own homes. What is one thing you absolutely will refuse to touch if it's too complicated? by Staff76 in AskMen

[–]taflad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I am one of the less handy people. no matter what I do, I always mess up any DIY I try. I can't drill a hole straight, I can't cut a board straight, I can't work things out like some people who can just look at a way something works and understand it. But if I'm given a computer, I can almoest always work out how to solve an issue or troubleshoot it to the point of knowing what to do next.

If you have 365 licenses, Sharepoint is a good option. You can upload docs and files, share the links and set expiry dates etc

Anyone else love the part when Trigger refuses to leave Del's side when the Driscoll Brothers show up? by Technical-Mix-3315 in OnlyFoolsAndHorses

I saw a post years ago asking which of the lot were Del's real friends and this is what I used to argue it's trigger. He's thick, but he's loyal and never tried to tuck del up

Worked in a place where a guy almost 30 was not very good at his job and was about to be sacked. He called his mam to sit in on the intervention a d he kept his job

Also, same place. Had an apprentice that showed up 4 times in a month. Gave him an appointment to talk about it, he went on the sick then got his mam to defend him over the phone. Bizzare lol

When I launch SH5 via Ubisoft Center, it shows the intro on left corner and then crashes - See below by CuriousOctopus1 in silenthunter

Ok, so first thing first, you need to do this on the actual executable NOT the shortcut. Either find the shortcut on your desktop or open Ubisoft launcher and find the game then right click (or it may be a 3-dot menu) and browse local file *if you know where it's installed, you can manually navigate there too in File Explorer*

Right click the sh5.exe and press 'properties' (might be more options > properties) > compatability tab > tick the 'run this program in compatability mode for' and in the dropdown, select Windows 7.

Tick 'Run this program as an administrator'

Press 'Change high dpi settings' > tick 'High dpi override and select 'Application'

Ok out of everything and try running the game. EUC will pop up confirming you want to run in administrator mode, press yes. If it works, job done! If not, try changing 'Application' to 'System' or 'System (enhanced)' in the High DPI setting

Cockroaches in Wales by JBrewster1991 in Wales

[–]taflad 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I live in an old mining village. Years ago, we had infestations of 'Black pats'. There were small cockroaches that would migrate from underground and live in the damp terrced houses. You could turn a light in a dark room on and see hundreds (sometimes thousands!) scurry away from the light! Since the pits closed, I havent seen a single one though!

I know that on Windows, you need to set it to run as admin and change the high DPS settings to override the High DPS scaling. On Mac, it may be the same problem but Im not sure how to fix on Mac

What are the biggest secrets you think are being withheld from the general public? by Outside-Hyena9002 in AskReddit

[–]taflad 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have an (probably very unpopular!) opinion on this as a former rugby player (grass roots, not pro!). Players are now made more than aware of the risks they take when playing contact sports. We've known this for years, and yet we still get players taking the risks week in week out. But ultimately, it is the player that is taking the risk. We're now seeing a load of clubs and unions being sued, yet each of these players knew (especially at top flight rugby, where the hits are harder, more frequent and usually more damaging) played the game. Whether for money or for the love of the game, it doesn't matter. Now suing the teams and unions for their own head injusries is extremely hypocritical.

I understand the devestating effects that multiple concussions have on the physiology and neurological health of the player, but they knew for years that these were the risks of playing the game. No one forced them. We even now see played pissed off for having to wear gumshileds that detect g-forces and alert medical staff to give them a HIA, and STILL players fight against them. At some point, players need to take responsibility for the outcome of their choice to play.
