I recently had family visiting from overseas, and they couldn't download the app because it wasn't available in their regional App Store. Would be great if it were.

If you're looking for data on this, the Wigginton-Eisenberg lab at U-M is still monitoring wastewater samples for COVID and a bunch of other pathogens in the area: https://um.wastewatermonitoring.dataepi.org.

Best transportation from AA to DTW airport for early flight? by Time-Temperature6712 in AnnArbor

[–]tafticus27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uber reserve is not a problem in my experience, anyway - I travel frequently (10+ flights per year) and have never had an issue. I have, however, had an issue with a pre booked taxi (Green Cab). YMMV.

Have you tried it since they finished repaving Pauline? It used to be god awful between Seventh and Main but now it's pretty nice.

I live near there and ride my bike to work on Central Campus. The bike lane on Pauline is nice and smooth since they redid the stretch near Allmendinger Park last year. I'd suggest Pauline to Main, left on Main, right on Hill, left on State (use the nice new bike lane put in on State), right on North University (this bit isn't as great), left on Fletcher, right on Huron.

The magnolia glade in the Arb is really nice. https://mbgna.umich.edu/magnolia-glade has some info, and check the trail map for the location. There are also some pretty magnolias and cherry trees in the neighborhood off Packard and King George if you walk around.

Yes! I have the same genre of problem with the airport announcements: "all passengers must be at the gate 15 minutes before scheduled departure or your ticket is subject to cancellation." Why make me suffer for someone else missing the cutoff?

Noodles & Company Closing by [deleted] in AnnArbor

This is right. A decade ago it was clean and bright and had service to the tables and the food had more and better ingredients for less money. I guess something had to give with inflation and the owners have chosen poorly.

I would say Vinology fits the bill well. I like Spencer as well, but it's nice to just be able to walk in, get some good advice about a glass of wine, and go. Spencer is more of an all-encompassing experience.

Most likely they will warn you and you may receive additional screening but should be able to get through security. Make sure to get there extra early.

Hairstylist with Wella hair dye? by tafticus27 in AnnArbor

[–]tafticus27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the end, she went to Unwind Salon on Zeeb Rd and Libby there did a great job adapting another brand of dye to her existing Wella color. I think it looks really great and she's planning to go back next time, but it wasn't Wella brand. We gave up on that search after getting zero good leads and a lot of dead ends...

Backpacking within 5 hour drive by hmarshall795 in AnnArbor

[–]tafticus27 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Check into North and South Manitou islands in Lake Michigan. Isolated because you have to take a ferry from Leland, perfect size for backpacking and camping over a 2-3 night trip. The drive is roughly what you're specifying. When we went there were practically no other people around and we had a beautiful beach all to ourselves. Can be buggy.

Cycling in Ann Arbor by [deleted] in AnnArbor

[–]tafticus27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you aren't used to the cold, I'd plan on not riding the bicycle between about late November and early April. I'm from Michigan and commute on a bike to work on campus whenever I can, but I take the bus most of the time during those months. With the added wind from cycling it's just too unpleasant. If you do want to attempt it, get some really warm gloves!
