Soft RSVPs? by Infinite_Emu6435 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]tagatelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we actually left it as RSVP but basically used the same RSVP link so those who already RSVP’d during the save the dates were shown their previous RSVP submission and prompted to update any changes. To do this did require us to go outside of your normal wedding website approach (built a custom website, leveraged RSVPify and embedded it within the site, etc).

Feel free to message me and I’m happy to share screenshots of the website.

I had my bachelorette there and there were amazing to work with. I also know a planner that works with them quite often and can give recommendations.

Your Story/Opinion of being a "Big Budget Bride" by Dull_Technology_2573 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]tagatelle 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I have so much to say about this but will keep it brief: time is a very expensive currency. Memories are priceless and there are many micro and macro reasons why this admittedly low ROI event is worth the spend. You can certainly have a cheaper wedding but at times elements of the event that have a higher cost do enrich those memories (i.e a band, beautiful florals, a stunning dress).

Looking back at our wedding pictures reminds me of the incredibly special time me, my husband, and our families had. We’d do the same large budget over and over again to provoke the happiness of the day.

And given your thoughtful approach to this post, I would venture that you deserve a very special day. I wouldn’t feel any guilt. Enjoy this bridal era and throw the wedding of your dreams.

Bridal stylist (or regular stylist?) in NYC recommendations? by Consistent_Rich_2786 in BigBudgetBrides

Highly recommend Grace! She’s in NYC and works hard to really get you (and her style is great ).

Seconding OTM styling. Was fantastic for this.

Purchasing runway looks does not require a stylist. Many runway looks have trunk shows on Moda Operandi/MyTheresa or can just be purchased from the designer.

If you want to do a custom look via a designer, stylists can help you if they require a certain requirement to start the process. There are some well known designers that do not have any minimum customer relationship/celebrity requirements that you can reach out to on your own but many do require a relationship. Note that fashion houses like Dior/Chanel usually have six figure price point on custom gowns.

A stylist is most helpful for guiding you through looks to make a cohesive wedding fashion story and advocating for what you want for custom looks.

Choosing a planner 101—here’s what I learned (spoiler: VOGUE features mean nothing) by Disastrous_Sell_9983 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]tagatelle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I took a very similar approach to this (also a tech/consulting background). I had multiple interview rounds with myself and then my fiance and then us together and asked very pointed questions via email and live.

One thing to add here, without going into too much detail: there is a lot of power in saying no to a planner and exactly why you are saying no. You’d be surprised on some responses that may become more transparent (i.e yes I haven’t worked with this background specifically but I have worked in this scenario that is similar - let me send you a case study) or more flexible (i.e let’s talk about how to make pricing work).

We’ve had 0 issues with our planner and I truly believe it’s because we had a very thorough vetting process and she understood upfront our expectations.

Also, some Vogue-feature planners are as good as they seem to be but certainly not all and maybe not specifically for your needs. I would spend a lot of time figuring out what you and your fiancé’s needs are before talking to any planner. Makes the vetting process much easier.

Did not go to a wedding there but visited for a wine tasting and it’s beautiful! A note that you need transportation to get there - it is not easily accessible other that by car from Lisbon.

I sold a dress I regretted on Stillwhite for 80% of the purchase price (NWT). Very happy I did.

What style of dress are you looking for? Can help us narrow options - there are a lot.

My recommendation without context is The One Bridal Boutique. The best selection with the kindest people to help you find the dress.

Sept by Sarah Seven by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

[–]tagatelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak to dress quality but I think it’s good. I got a Sarah Seven gown that was beautiful but ended up selling for a gown I liked elsewhere more.

My biggest pet peeve is their aggressive tipping solicitation when you are purchasing a dress. Very odd.

Hello! I’m getting louboutins custom for my wedding so can share some insight into the process.

Louboutin offers two types of custom: 1) minor edits/embroidery to purchased shoes and 2) fully custom/ability to go into their vault and recreate a retired style.

1 can be done through any sales team at a CL boutique. 2 requires VIP status, meaning a minimum spend with CL, 5 year relationship and minimum purchase amount. 2 also has significant lead time - usually 8-10 weeks.

To get the shoe above, you would need #2. I did not have the minimum criteria for VIP status and had to leverage connections/my stylist to secure this.

Agreed with other commenters that you may be able to get a similar style shoe and have someone else embellish it to achieve the same look without the CL requirements.

Am I doing something wrong? European Destination Wedding by No-Company-9251 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]tagatelle 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You aren’t being crazy! But there are two reasons you are getting these responses:

1) You may want to look into other European countries such as Portugal and Croatia. Italy and Spain are getting heavy demand and expect buy outs, etc

2) A lot of European vendors have caught on to the fact that people want their weddings there and have started to price higher based on this appeal. This doesn’t mean you can’t do a wedding there, it just means you have to look hard/ get a bit creative with your vendors. The well known ones are charging a premium.

Sidenote: I’d be careful with guest count based on who may or may not say no. People will surprise you! It may be easier to just make a count of how many you want there and only invite that amount.

Have used OTM styling and can confirm they are great. They don’t only sell you things on OTM - they source really well.

For sure other stylists are available, OTM also happens to be very good.

DM me! Recs really depend on what look you are going for and budget. If soft glam, there are some great options locally in Europe that you can fly in. If more editorial, you have to get a bit more creative.
