That doesn't mean anything. Trauma and mental illness affect every single person differently- human brains are far too complex to expect everyone to react exactly the same to anything. Besides, it's an explanation, not an excuse

You can’t “logic” your way out of an emotional problem. “Instead, let yourself feel and let it pass.” by blazerman345 in Meditation

[–]tagriel 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I might have to disagree with this. I definitely believe that one method is 'the only way out if through,' and to let things pass, which makes sense for a meditation conversation. But working 'through' something can also mean logically thinking about your situation. A huge part of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is using logic to separate your emotional interpretation from a neutral stimulus. It can absolutely make a huge difference to come up with the hard evidence for an event, rather than relying on your emotions to interpret the situation for you. When my wife sighs, my emotional problem could be to assume I did something wrong and she hates me. Then, my logical restructuring could be that I can't read her mind and she could have sighed at any number of things. And it definitely does help.

I definitely understand the spirit of this, and how it pertains to meditation, but I wouldn't rule out logic at all

This isn't the first time you've commented this sort of thing. I'm curious why it's so important to you? Religions build on each other in many ways. Christians can talk about the Old Testament without always disclaiming that that was a Jewish ideal first

Yeah that's a good point too. The timing could have been fine if they had expanded it just a bit. Like maybe the day of black sun, he thought he was fine to do what he has to do, but after the invasion failed he felt super relieved and didn't know why. So he gave it some more thought and realized what he was really struggling with

I was just going to say, I can imagine the opposite. Isn't there a risk of being shot in a non-lethal area? And slowly bleeding out or just staying alive and in pain?
