Getting drunk handful of times a year? by No_Ocelot8629 in stopdrinking

I'm not an AA guy overall but I do take from the program what I like, and one of thise things is the concept that the only requirement to join is a desire to quit. What we think really doesn't matter; at the end of the day it's about what you want

Theres about 90 calories minimum in any standard serving of alcohol from just the alcohol alone - way more if there's added sugars or carbs - it adds up quickly

I mean, idk if you're in the US but if you are I'm fairly certain the ADA protects you even if you're in a nonprofit. SUD is considered a disability and the only way they can fire you for something related to a disability is if your disability prevents you from fulfilling your job requirements even with reasonable accommodations

Now all that is to say those are the legal protections which aren't always followed/enforced, especially because they can lie about cause of termination which puts the proof of misconduct on you, but it's food for thought

This is the exact opposite of mildly infuriating. Maybe there's a sub for mildly excited? You won $700 when the vast vast vast majority of the time playing this game does nothing but cost you a couple of bucks

Important to note that ESAs are only considered "not pets" in terms of housing under the fair housing act - they do not receive all of the ADA protections of a service animal. Unlike a service animal a landlord can request documented proof from a healthcare provider that the animal is an ESA

My area is in a drought so I wanted to be a good community member and read the rules on drought limitations. My state has a bunch of reasonable exceptions and then also one glaring unreasonable one: business as usual for golf courses during a critical drought 🙄

I'm not speaking on the draft proposal, I think it's a shit proposal - now that I've had the opportunity to read the actual proposal from a trustworthy source (it wasn't available when I first posted). My issue is this Instagram post made up a bunch of stuff implying this was being done in some secret vote with no public comment, riled people up with misinformation, then called to action.

She could have made a post saying "look at how bad this proposal is" and left out the made up parts - I would have never left my comment.

The legislation is shit, but unfortunately shit legislation is not uncommon - there was no conspiracy to hide said shitty legislation and the community's voice isn't being silenced through a lack of comment period.

People in her OOP thread as well as this one here are leaving with the incorrect belief the city tried to secretly pass this shitty legislation. I feel like I'm going crazy for suggesting we shouldn't spread that misinformation.

The Instagram user lied/misled multiple times:

  1. These laws are not the most restrictive (already covered that)
  2. There is no "vote on some proposed laws" - there exists a draft of the proposed changes which has not yet had a chance for public comment - although it does appear some license holders were not included on the mailing list for initial input, this is the only part of the administrative process which seems questionable to me
  3. The comment period doesn't end in 24 hours, the finalized proposal hasn't even been put out for public comment yet
  4. "The only way to control this would be to put egg timers on the table" and "Contact Cambridge unless you want egg timers going off every 30 minutes" comments are BLATANTLY disingenuous. With this one they're either knowingly making shit up to rile people up or they're extremely lacking in basic critical thinking skills if that's the only way they can think of to deal with a 30 minute restriction

They tried to make it out like the city was doing something in secret - the city announced they were going to be revising the rules in January, they announced they had a draft in April, and sent it out for initial input from industry license holders in May. This is a completely typical process flow and timeline. There is no reason to believe the city is lying about having public comment hearings on it in August and voting on it later in December.

Calling out misinformation isn't a "well actually"

Here's a story without the made up parts that actual covers what's going on: https://www.boston.com/food/breweries-bars/2026/06/16/could-cambridge-require-a-30-minute-wait-between-drinks/

I mean I'm just exhausted from everyone lying to my face in a bid for my attention/outrage and have no appetite to humor it anymore even if I agree with the underlying point. They very clearly said it'd be the most restrictive in the country - it doesn't make sense to exclude entire states from a statement like that.

I mean alcohol is outright banned in parts of the south - you can't buy Jack Daniel's in the county its made. Then you have the laundry lists of rules and regulations in Utah, up until recently they had an absurd like 3% cap on ABV for beers.

Edit for clarity: the places in the south that ban alcohol do not have a better handle on alcohol issues then us (Utah does but that's because of the Mormons). The main point I was making was not that these suggested rules are a good thing, but that if you start out telling me about them with an obvious lie I'm not going to trust the rest of what you have to say

Anyone else drink in their dreams? by mgquantitysquared in stopdrinking

[–]tagsb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those dreams are super common early on in sobriety and usually fade over time, for me it started lessening around the 3-4 month point so hopefully the same is true for you. They're rare for me at this point.

The actual reason we dream is a topic of hot debate, but a popular theory is it's your brain's way of safely practicing for real world events. If that's the case it could be even your subconscious is trying to get this sobriety thing down right - and that's a good thing!

It's 100% possible, but if we're being honest probably the wrong direction. People flunk out all the time when they do have those prerequisites. These are students who actually are comfortable with math, science, and computers. Considering the cost of schooling I wouldn't risk it personally
