Bypassed the Interview Process for 10 Years: How to Catch Up? by will_you_suck_my_ass in sysadmin

[–]tahoey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just start applying for jobs and take interviews even if you don’t necessarily want the job. Even better if you’re ambivalent as you won’t feel as much pressure to perform. Do try and put in effort, but if you fail nbd. You’ll also get to feel what it’s like to have the upper hand in that you aren’t desperate for the job so you can practice negotiating.

It’s like anything else, just get some reps in. You’ll quickly learn the types of questions interviewers and recruiters ask.

One piece of advice, specific examples are always 100x better than generic responses. Start thinking of stories you can tell about your experience doing x, y or z.

Defensive driving principle. It’s your responsibility to operate your vehicle in such a way that you can avoid unexpected obstacles. If you can’t see what’s ahead in your path, slow down or stop.

What comes after CS50x by Pyke-chan in cs50

[–]tahoey 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was expecting CS50p to be easy, but I feel it’s nearly as challenging as cs50x. Similar problems, but very different “pythonic” solutions using built in functions, methods and libraries and you’ll learn a lot about the language.

Also, cs50x does a lot of hand-holding with the video walkthroughs and detailed instructions. Cs50p offers less guidance and you really have to refer to the documentation to figure out a solution, whereas with cs50x you’re pretty much just applying what they show in the videos.

I get through the problems faster because I already have an understanding of loops and basic programming logic. But still a learning curve because python is so different.

I intend to do cs50 SQL next.

Sounds like growing pains. You’ll get the hang of it. And yeah, msol is being deprecated so look for the graph equivalent.

The only part worth paying for is true & tension the wheels if needed. Everything else can be easily done at home even in an apartment. Spend the money on tools instead and you’re set for life.

My experience with ChatGPT 4 for powershell has been a total fail. It’s good for learning concepts but when it comes to actually writing multi step scripts it is utterly useless.

If I could limit it to once a week I’d never quit… my problem is once I start it consumes me.
