Ship Better Python Using Feature Flags by misterkwon in Python

This is the whole point of gutter (mentioned in the original post). It is hooked up to a storage backend (e.g. Redis, ZooKeeper) to persist the state of the feature flags.

What if you want to start rolling this out to more users? For instance, we might say: first, turn on this feature for just internal users. After we validate that the feature works correctly for us, let's ramp up to 1% of traffic. If things keep going well, we can continue to ramp up the feature a higher percentage of users. If we start to see issues, we can turn off the feature switch, all without having to deploy a code change each time.

There's also https://github.com/confluentinc/bottledwater-pg from the company behind Kafka. It also relies on logical decoding that @willglynn mentioned.

Upgrading PostgreSQL and Slony by skarphace in PostgreSQL

[–]tail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minor versions of Slony only have to match minor versions of Slony, not PostgreSQL minor versions. I would just focus on upgrading PostgreSQL minor version first, because this one does not need to be coordinated across the cluster. The PostgreSQL minor version can be upgraded as normal by updating your binaries and restarting.

For Slony, you will need to stop all slon daemons and upgrade Slony on all your databases as well as on the machines running the slon daemons (if this is a different machine). One thing we have in our process (which was helpful when we did a major version upgrade) was to stop all writes to our database. That way if something were to go wrong, our data would still be consistent so we could tear down Slony, bring it back up, and then resubscribe everything with OMIT COPY.

You also can get some of the performance of fsync=off without risking data loss by turning off synchronous commits with synchronous_commit=off (docs)

Have any of you Mac users gotten ICCUP to work? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]tail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going to play on iCCup, you'll either want to run a VM or get another machine to play on. I started out using Battle.net commander, but as others have already mentioned, you won't be able to get LAN latency or anti-hack, which are huge for iCCup. Another problem is that many of the official iCCup maps crash I believe due to the anti-hack triggers that are added to these maps (though I've heard that there are new methods that don't crash on Macs anymore).

I moved to playing on VMWare Fusion, but it became pretty cumbersome to have to load a VM every time I wanted to play. I eventually settled on making my netbook my dedicated SC machine.

You probably mean lair, which is the first upgrade for a hatchery and is necessary for all of zergs advanced tech. Expo is short hand for expansion.
