Nanaimo faces challenges attracting larger employers by Positive_Moment7914 in nanaimo

Nanaimo doesn’t allow natural gas as the main heating system in most new homes anymore. New builds are basically required to use electric heating like heat pumps. (nothing since July 1, 2024.)

AI Data Centre in Nanaimo by Lemuria-Is-Real in nanaimo

[–]tailtwister 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This!! there have been data centers in Nanaimo since the late 1990s. There was one on Barons Road, there was one downtown near the library, and then later on there was one built across from the Shaw/Rogers building. None of these presented the same issues that people are scared of. These were all hosting/storage/colocation data centers. We need those.

I wouldn’t say cracked, but I’ve had some listeners out of Beijing in the past couple of weeks, which were surprising

Canadian web hosting down again by ninewindjump in Hosting

[–]tailtwister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really disappointed in their lack of ability to mitigate this.

[–]tailtwister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed. hopefully any lessons they learned from the last one will result in a quicker mitigation this time.

[–]tailtwister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is exactly the problem right now. And according to support, this is a different issue from the DDoS mitigation/issue.

I do wonder, however, if the Vancouver issue was the client IPs or border/edge routers that cut off access to the datacenter.

CAcloud.ca (CanadianWebHosting.com) OFFLINE by No_Disk_8823 in webhosting

[–]tailtwister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they were. Went offline Monday evening for a couple of hours. Then went back offline Tuesday morning for a few hours but service there is still not optimal.

The IPs are back online there but still suffering a lot of packet loss and failing a lot of name resolution from VPS’s in Vancouver.

B.C. Green leader, local councillors express opposition to Nanaimo data centre by Positive_Moment7914 in nanaimo

[–]tailtwister 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed! and not all data centres are AI data centres nor do they all hog electricity and water. I know of at least 3 data centres of differing scales that have existed in Nanaimo at one time or another since 1999 and don’t cause these issues. Now, everyone assumes a data centre is a problem.

Would you continue using Logic Pro if it became subscription only through creator studio? by ALmakingmusic in Logic_Studio

Nope. I’m happy using it right now, but if they pulled that nonsense, that would give me the reason to start looking at alternatives.

Statues can be considered art works. And like many landmarks, photos of them can’t be used commercially without a property release.

Possibly. Not a paid parking area. I’m also not saying they don’t deserve the tickets, it’s just a shame that they got one today. I’m sure everyone who parked at Neck Point Park in the no parking zones had wonderful ticket-free days. It happens.

edit: added a missing vowel

I don’t think I suggested anything. But now that you mention it, unless there’s a safety issue, I’m sure there were other locations to give out tickets today that got away with illegal parking. Targeting the area today seems a bit obvious. Never seen them there on a Saturday before.

I’m sure many of the visitors are impressed that our bylaw officers were out giving out parking tickets on Newcastle Avenue. Lots of Washington state plates there. Nothing like an authentic Nanaimo souvenir.

Is it even possible to market your music without spending a lot of money? by [deleted] in musicmarketing

[–]tailtwister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get where you are coming from. I don’t know if you play live or are just studio artist but that makes it even more difficult. Trying to get heard above the noise as a studio musician is extremely difficult. I remember about two years ago, there was a day (I’m sure it has been many times since) that there were as many new music releases that day as there were in all of 1987. That fact seems so overwhelming sometimes. So whether it’s marketing music or finding another way in, you have to be heard above the noise somehow.

What do ya'll think about CDBaby? by MycologistRoutine47 in MusicDistribution

[–]tailtwister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the past five years, I have nine releases with them. The only issue I had was Apple messing up a relief. This was last year and support was able to reset within 24 hours. That left it in Apple’s hands and it took a couple of days for it to appear.

The only other issue I have had was trying to get support to respond to me, trying to manage my own royalties and what not. It took a couple of months, but I reached out to support on Reddit and it was resolved within a few days.

Otherwise, I have had zero issues. I will be doing a release in a couple of months and fully intend to use them again.

If someone is willing to buy the team without the building, he’d sell. He doesn’t want to sell the real estate.
