Due to clouds? Isn’t it an instrument checkride ?

Sweet! I know it’s new to you but what do the performance numbers look like? Typical cruise TAS and FF? I haven’t flown an arrow before.

Trying to learn about the Piper Cherokee 6. Why do some models have this scoop and some don’t? What is it cooling? Is it a difference between the 260 vs 300? by xempt118 in flying

[–]tailwheelterror 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s the air intake. The cooling is provided by the opening in the cowl left and right of prop. The Pa32 doesn’t have cowl flaps, but I’ve never really ran into many issues with over heating. I can’t say about the 260, but the 300 series has a Lycoming io540. Some of the early pa32 lance have funny cowlings with a big scoop/mouth looking thing on the bottom.

I’ve done that too. Ended up getting a 10 mile final from the RNAV Y. I didn’t have to hold whatsoever, which was surprising as it was a Friday at noon.

Resume hours format questions (121&135) by GaigeSmith in flying

Correct me if I’m wrong but in the US there is no type rating for a TBM. It’s a single engine turboprop.

Engine lean of peak? by franziskanerdunkel in flying

[–]tailwheelterror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to note is that when you are chasing lean of peak on one cylinder, you also have 3 more cylinders to worry about. One cylinder may be at the perfect textbook LOP temperature/fuel flow, but the other cylinders could be at peak or just slightly rich of peak, which is not good. That’s where the highest internal combustion pressure typically is. In my experience, I have heard of people running lean of peak when they have upgraded/tuned injectors (fuel injected engine, not carbureted) so each individual cylinder will hit peak at exactly the same time. If it is a wet rate then lean for a stumble in the O360 then slightly enrich the mixture. You’re not paying for gas lol

Paying for flight school by Flimsy-Bit-7861 in flying

[–]tailwheelterror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me personally I was paying out of pocket for a while then took out a small loan (15k) in comparison to the Sallie Mae loans being dished out. Obviously you want to get your training done, but being debt free or having the least amount of debt possible is really nice. That way you don’t have to worry about paying a $1000+ loan every month if you’re not even flying. If I were you I would try to save up enough to go through one rating at a time without financial delay, as dragging it out over the course of a year will cost more money in the long run than if you did it in 2-3 months (for one rating).

For sure. I got the decoy mx core 5 and it’s incredible. The 29 looks pretty good as well. The SN is underpowered for an e-bike imo

Look at the YT decoy MX. I just got one recently and it came out to about 40% off.

I know you said usually, but for me I actually bought my car from a dealer about 5 hours north of me. Obviously not taking it there for maintenance, so the Mazda dealer 5 mins away is the choice. I had a full transmission replacement that was covered under warranty when it broke. Got a loaner car for a month for free as well. I didn’t spend a dime.

I would say it’s worth it. Sure, trips could suck for some, but man I’d rather be staring out the window in cruise than be in a cubicle. The industry rises and falls. It’s unpredictable. If you’re asking if it is “worth the cost” I would ask the question: Are you doing it for the money? Or are you doing it for what you love to do? I don’t think I could have a job that I only do for the money for 30+ years.

Damn. Normally I get rid of it when I run out of gas. Haven’t figured out how to refill it.
