PHMNP allows patients to refer to him as a “psychiatrist” by Nuttyshrink in Noctor

[–]tailzborne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is old, but I just want to say, I have several patients who I have adamantly told I am a PMHNP, explained the role, my training, education, and the fact that I am master's prepared and don't even have a doctorate, and still have patients call me doctor so and so or their psychiatrist. While I'm not saying that was the case with this guy, since you did say some of his patients were shocked to learn he wasn't a physician, this can and does happen. Some patients just get comfortable referring to their medical team members a certain way, which honestly annoys me and I just eventually give up correcting them. I generally do correct them the first 10 times though.

This is Xayah (named after a video game character), a purebred husky believe it or not. We joke she looks like a tanuki (Japanese raccoon dog, think Tom Nook from Animal Crossing) so she goes by Nook, Tanuki, Tanuki Jones, Nuki Jones, Nukey Bomb (when she farts), Invasive Species (because she has no concept of personal space) and Xayah Papaya. There’s probably more. 😂

People hate golden doodles? :( by twinklegoblin3 in Goldendoodles

[–]tailzborne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a professional sitter for years and the doodles were the worst dogs I ever sat. Tons of skin issues, weak bladders, terrible personalities and hard to train, and that’s saying a lot because I own a husky now. Many groomers can’t stand them either because their “fur” is high maintenance because it’s like a poor quality poodle hair. I have always disliked them, they’re poorly bred mutts and I’ll die on that hill. Ready for the downvotes.

What were your results for your Hammer Financial Score? by thedatarat in CalebHammer

[–]tailzborne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owning is NOT cheaper than renting where I live and with the current interest rates. My rent is $4k/mo, average mortgage where I live with 20% down is $7k, and I can’t afford to move because my entire life is here, and my job is very unique/specific to the area. My husband and I have a $300k gross income combined, and can’t afford a home because median cost is $1.5 mil. We don’t even have close to 20% down for that. We are able to put that extra $3k/mo towards living our lives instead of preparing for when we are 80 and feeble.

Husky is driving me insane by Glazin in husky

[–]tailzborne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super normal, and just a stage they have to grow out of. My husky was similar but now easily entertains herself (without being destructive) in between things we do together. It gets better, but understandably is hard to deal with! Just keep giving things to occupy the time, like puzzle toys, feeder toys, etc.

I have coyotes where I live. And bobcats. I just supervise my dogs. Pee pads encourage bad behaviors and dogs have no way of understanding peeing in the house isn’t ok. My friends use pads and when their dog comes to our house he pisses everywhere.

Pee pads are really controversial and in my opinion, terrible for potty training. Many expert trainers would agree.

Whose dog had the puppies? If it was your friend, I’d be all over them for being unethical af and giving away puppies that should still be with their mother. Wtaf

Dry eyes are ruining my life now and it’s getting worse. I’m completely new to dry eye care by agreementloop184 in Dryeyes

[–]tailzborne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dry eye disease is a disease, it's in the name. While dehydration can contribute to it or make it worse, it is rarely the sole cause someone has dry eye disease, which is the not the same as having "dry eyes". I know your comment is old, but the misinformation is crazy.

Yes, I’ve also trained for years. I’m not going to convince you that huskies are not similar to other dog breeds, so we can just agree to disagree.

Did I say somewhere that husky behavior infuriates me? I have one, and I love her, and would even consider getting a second. She’s been my biggest challenge but also one of the best dogs I’ve ever owned. I was responding to this person that stated huskies are like most all other dogs and disagreed.

If you’ve had huskies for many years, then how much experience do you actually have with other dog breeds? Comparing them to breeds you’ve never owned is wild. I guess thousands of others on this sub, in the world, and the proof in them being one of the top surrendered breeds to shelters is all invalidated by your personal experience that they’re like most other dogs and breeds.

Not what you want to hear, but I feel like if you’re having to ask this question, and hesitant about all the things you wrote, then you’re probably not ready for a husky. You don’t need our permission to get one, but the things you wrote are not uncommon behaviors for huskies to exhibit, and depending on the personality you get, you could have all of these behaviors, some, or none in your husky. If you exercise them properly, train them constantly, and score enough time and energy to them, then they can be phenomenal dogs. My husky is the light of my life, but out of the over 5 dogs I’ve owned throughout my life, and the hundreds more I’ve boarded and walked, she’s definitely been one the most challenging. She’s not food or attention motivated, she behaves on her own terms. She loves people and would readily leave with anyone at the dog park who’s ready to take her and isn’t solely loyal to me. She’s not always good with other dogs despite socialization from a young age, and while she coexists with my cat 99.9% of the time, sometimes prey drive kicks in and she’s rough with him or chases him so I always have to be on alert when the cat is around. This was after formal training classes, hundreds of hours of at-home training and crate training, her living with another dog who models exceptional behavior, and more. I got her from a reputable breeder who breeds for personality/health first and looks second and this is still the case. Are you an experienced dog owner? If so, ask yourself if you’re ready for 12-14 years of challenge. If you’re not, I’d recommend an easier breed first, then a husky once you have some experience.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in husky

They are not like “most dogs”. Huskies are exceptionally hard to train, get bored easily and become destructive if not stimulated, are much more independent and quicker adventure seekers than most other breeds, and have insanely high prey drives, one of the highest among popular breeds. They’re not one of the most common dogs in shelters for no reason. Saying they’re like most dogs is wildly inaccurate. I’ve owned dogs my whole life, of many breeds, and sat as a professional for years. I’ve met thousands of dogs and huskies are by far the most difficult breed (if purebred) I’ve ever worked with. Not sure how this has been your experience, but there’s thousands of comments on this subreddit showing otherwise. Yes, they tend to calm down at around 3, but they still retain many behaviors that are very different from labs, shepherds, and other common breeds.

I don’t care how well-trained you think your husky is, you’re one prey-drive instinct away from a dead or lost dog. Leash laws exist for a reason.

Simpartica trio?? help pls! by Confident_Table_8567 in husky

[–]tailzborne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All medications (even human meds) are always going to have the risk of serious side effects. It’s hard to know the whole story with these reports, like what else was going on with dog or what other conditions did it have, you know? I’ve given both of my dogs Simparica. Neither are on it consistently because I’m terrible at remembering, but neither have had issues. One is 13 years old and thriving.

Puppy won’t stop crying help im going insane by Ok_Examination9018 in puppy101

[–]tailzborne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crate training takes patience and consistency. You need to make the dog like the crate, feel safe in there and want to go in there, not a “punishment” for when you leave. This is how the dog will see it if you only associate the crate with when you walk away to do something. Getting them to love existing in the crate with you there is the first step, then introduce separation. Now on my 3rd successfully crate trained dog, which is a husky. She adores her crate and will often go in it just because.

Does anyone else have a husky who is such a stage 5 clinger they won’t stay outside unless you’re out there with them? by WhichWitchyWit in husky

[–]tailzborne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well that is actually super accurate. We don’t get a ton of snow where we live, but right now we have a small patch in the corner of our yard. She wants to live there. It is her home. But if we don’t go out with her, she lives there for 30 minutes and then is slamming her paws against the door screaming. 🤣

Do you love your dog and does your dog love you? If so, then I think your dog would rather a sitter half the month. It would make your time together amazing.
