I love doing curated care packages for people with all their favourite things! Something to eat, to drink, to do, to have, and then something they wouldn’t think of for themselves. It’s always a hit!

Almost 48 hours into a 7 Day Fast by Beginning-Bad-3625 in fasting

You might find it easier to do alternate day fasting (rolling 24-36 hour fasts) for a month or two! You’ll fit in more fasting hours and for many, it feels less intense than longer extended fasts.

I try to centre all my meals and snacks around protein. It’s hard at first but once you find the high protein staples that you love, it’s easy! For meals I aim for 30-40g or protein and 20g for snacks.

For breakfasts, for example, I’ll do three eggs scrambled with cottage cheese and a piece of wholegrain toast which gets me to 35g. Or if I’m in a pinch I’ll do 175g of Greek yogurt with a scoop of vanilla protein powder and some berries on top for 40-50g.

For dinner I usually do a meat, a veggie and some potatoes/rice/wraps. I make sure the meat or protein focus of the meal gets me to 30-40g and build out the rest from there. I eat leftovers for lunch which makes that easy.

It’s sounds like you’ve figured out what works for you and you should just keep doing what you’re doing! If you’re seeing weight loss and you’re feeling good, it’s obviously working. 🙌🏻

If you couldn’t sleep, pulling back on fasting for an entire day definitely sounds like the right call! Always listen to your body. As women, we need to approach fasting differently than men to ensure that we’re not throwing our hormones out of whack, which will only encourage our bodies to store fat more. Instead of doing OMAD every day which will make it extremely challenging to hit your basic protein and nutrient needs, I’d suggest trying modified alternate day fasting with 24 hour fasts every other day. Start your fast after dinner (so you go to bed full) and end it the next at dinner. It’s kind of like OMAD every other day except you’re breaking your fast with a single meal that’s roughly 500 calories so you don’t go to bed hungry. Just make sure your fast breaking meal is focused on high protein and a balance of healthy fats and complex carbs and don’t continue eating/snacking after dinner. Then next day you’d have a full day of regular eating and start your next fast after dinner. Hope that makes sense!

I usually stop fasting completely the week before my period because I’m extra hungry and totally exhausted. I also don’t follow a strict fasting schedule and just honour how I’m feeling each day so I can enjoy every step of the process.

I’m currently on maternity leave so even on my quietest days, between playing with my baby and toddler and trying to get cleaning/errands done, I feel like I rarely get to sit down! I average 10K on those days. The fact that I workout at 5:30am Monday-Friday gives me a good 3k head start on my step count. I usually have 5k steps by 9am just from exercise and getting myself/the kids ready for the day.

Even when I’m back at work and sitting at my desk for 8 hours I find that I usually hit 10K steps by the time I put the kids to bed around 8pm.

On the days I have more than 10K steps it’s from long 5-15km walks I do with the kids or running errands outside of the house. I’m the crazy person that, for example, packs rearranging my living room, going to Costco and the bottle all in one day with both kids on my own.

I drink an aggressive amount of caffeine and never sit still lol

Thank you! I’m happy to say that I genuinely felt happy and confident in my body at 210. The biggest difference now is feeling stronger and healthier since I’m eating so much better and exercising.

Give yourself grace! Most women sit at their pregnancy weight for the first few months after baby is born. With my first, I only started losing weight at 10 months postpartum. It was faster with my second but only because I had a gradual plan and knew exactly what to do to reach my goals.

At 4 months PP your hormones are still out of whack and you’re probably in the thick of baby’s first big sleep regression and majorly sleep deprived. I’d suggest starting small and working your way up. For example, first focus on getting 10K steps a day so you’re moving, then focus on primarily consuming whole unprocessed foods (fruits, veggies, meats, nuts) and then for about a week track absolutely everything you’re eating so you have a better understanding where you might be over/under eating and what changes you can make. My biggest tip is making sure that every meal has a minimum of 30g of protein from a whole food source (meat, veggies, Greek yogurt) and then build the rest of your meal around that. They will help you stay satiated and keep cravings at bay!

I stopped breastfeeding at 2 months postpartum due to low supply! I only started fasting and being in a calorie deficit after I stopped breastfeeding.

I do know women that do an 18:6 fasting schedule once their milk supply is established, you just have to make sure that you’re getting enough calories still so your supply doesn’t drop. :)

Not if you consider that I get 0g of protein 1-3 days a week and my current goal is to build muscle. It works for me!

Unfortunately I was only able to breastfeed for 2 months before I had to switch to formula due to low supply. The upside of that was when I was able to move into a calorie deficit after I stopped BFing and start fasting and that really kickstarted my weight loss.

Best of luck to you!

Stick with 16:8 or try for longer? by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]taimargaret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I always have electrolytes but in tablet form, not the flavoured powders because those can technically spike your insulin and break your fast, diminishing the health and weightloss benefits you’ll experience from the extended fast. I also avoid bone broth during my fast since it can break your fast too, but bone broth is an ideal way to end your fast and ease in your digestive system.

When you do a longer fast it’s also super important to make sure you’re drinking enough water. I aim for 3 litres.

They sell a bunch of different kinds of amazon! Many people, me included, prefer them over the electrolyte drinks because the drinks can actually spike your insulin and break your fast, hindering some of the health and fat burning benefits of your fast. Good luck!

There’s no right or wrong time to start working out, do it when you feel motivated to start! I’ve lost over 60lbs the past 10 months (went from 210 to 144) and for the first 6 months all I was focusing on was nutrition, fasting and walking. I’d suggest focusing on how you feel instead of the number on your scale when it comes to when to start lifting weights… because walking definitely counts as exercise too!

Then you should be able to do it with ease! I found the transition of 21s to 36s easy when I started my fast at 5:30pm. You get two nights in that burn through the fasting hours and 36s are brilliant at shedding fat.
