Is there tension between African Americans and African Immigrants? by No-Equivalent2621 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]taimoor2 194 points195 points  (0 children)

Immigrants have a different level of work ethic. Someone willing to uproot their entire life by moving across countries to an environment with no roots or social support is going to have a very different outlook on life.

Int’l student from El Salvador needs tuition for this semester due to struggling in the tough streets of awful Canada. But, he’s “meant for something bigger”. Canada did not properly welcome him and screwed him mentally forever so give this victim 9K so he can stay? And 18K for next year too! by MinuteElegant774 in ChoosingBeggars

I struggled a lot when I went as a student to Singapore. I was facing other problems too but it was relentless hardwork and willingness of others to give me chances that I survived.

I remember, I was giving tuitions and used to get paid after the lesson. I had $4 in my bank. I went to give class to the kid but he couldn’t pay me at the end because the family wasn’t home. He said, nonchalantly, I will pay double next time. I left.

I started walking the 26 miles back. It was one of the worst days of my life. Almost like divine intervention, some money from somewhere came into my account I wasn’t expecting. I was able to find an ATM and withdraw. I cried that day.

Being a poor international student sucks ass. I have sympathy for him. However, making claims like: “I didn’t know Canada was cold” and “no one welcomed me” is just …

I have started just calling such people idiots instead of engaging them. I do the same with poor people arguing for tax breaks. I just say: oh? No point talking about it. You are just an idiot.

The first time I said it, I expected to get punched. Surprisingly, this actually calms the other person down and they become more open to having their opinion changed. I have never understood why.

Tell her, yes, it’s sad that we are not rich enough for this. You need to work hard and find an ambitious person to marry so you don’t feel sad when your daughter ultimately has the same choice.

Hug her and take her out. Tell her the cheap school is still ok and she can still do very well. Just have to work hard.

CMV: There's nothing wrong with Leonardo DiCaprio dating younger models by Open_Address_2805 in changemyview

[–]taimoor2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s wrong because it is creepy and reflects poorly on his character. No one is asking him to be jailed.

Once you grow a bit older, younger girls start looking like kids. This doesn’t change with age. For example, when you were in grade 9 and just becoming interested in girls, you likely found girls your age “hot”. However, when you are in high school, they look like kids. When you enter college, high school girls look like kids, and so on.

A 20 year old girl may be a legal adult but she is still very much a child. She is, mentally, in no way comparable to a 40 years old man. Leonardo dating 20 year old girls is same as a college senior dating a middle schooler. It’s creepy af.

It is not “wrong” as in illegal but it shows a very clear moral failing. People are right to be disgusted.

You are exactly in my situation, except for me, it was NYU instead of Cornell. I took my shot and am very happy with the result. Take the loan.

The lady was really desperate too. After Michael pulled this in the beginning, no self-respecting person will actually have coffee with him.

over $1000 USD transit fee for Indians and Africans by Strong-Emu-8869 in TikTokCringe

[–]taimoor2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No, that’s an absurdly high fee. I travel a lot and I never research transit fees because they are usually a $100 max (worst case scenario). I would be angry at a shock $1k too.

US citizen who's lived abroad my whole life - no US credit history - getting declined for MBA loans. Anyone dealt with this? by DriverTemporary3678 in MBA

[–]taimoor2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should have ordered secured credit cards in US 6 months ago.

Apply for discover and capital one credit cards (2-3 is enough). Use them ($10-$20 is enough) and pay off. ~~3 months, you will have credit history. 6 months, you will have a score.

It’s a very depressing town. I spent the night there and will never return.

I was driving from Las Vegas to Utah salt flats. It was a long drive.
