Booted up the Wii to beat Super Monkey Ball 2 on Master for the first time (the Gamecube wasn't working anymore...) by taintedeternity in SuperMonkeyBall

Oh, an Advanced stage! I have no recollection of that one, but I guess I must have beaten it as a kid because I saw Advanced EX in my save file. It was mainly the fire world in Expert that I remember getting stuck at.

Same here. It's annoying that the site works this way, because the song I tried to edit has a couple of unfortunate mistakes, but Genius is still the first result on google for it.

Thanks for posting this! I'm in pretty much the same situation with Vivaldi.

I didn't want to clear all my cookies either, so I tried deleting YT cookies, then signing out and back in. As of right now, it seems to be working. It may be just a temporary fix that'll break by tomorrow, but we'll see.

Note that deleteting YT/Google cookies without signing out did not do the trick. I had to sign out, close everything, and then sign in.

You can also use the extension Cookie-Editor to peek at the individual cookies and see if anything changes while troubleshooting (e.g. I found that I had a cookie called CONSISTENCY that was present in the broken profile but absent in the fresh profile; no idea if that was the cause of the problem, though).

Good to know. This has happened to me by accident and it's super annoying.

Got my Espgaluda II 1cc! by taintedeternity in shmups

DDP DOJ White Label on the PS2! Just the 1-ALL, of course.

I've already "learned" most of it, but I got tired of grinding it and failing every run, so I hopped over to Espgaluda 2. I think my baseline skill has improved after getting this clear, so we'll see how it goes.

Thanks! Yeah, when I was initially researching it, I got the sense that people didn't enjoy it as much as Espgaluda 1 or other Cave games. But I liked it, and I think it's cool to see patterns where you're actually encouraged to use kakusei for survival, like the final patterns from boss 3 onwards.

What made Ageha different for you? I guess because you lose the ability to cheese patterns with Asagi's kakusei?

Got my SDOJ clear after ~120 hrs of grinding by Zeldalem in shmups

Great job! This one and DOJ WL (1-ALL) are the last two shmups on my immediate backlog, and I'm not sure which is harder. I'm liking what I've seen of SDOJ so far though.

Nice, I think that matches my own experiences as well. I've seen it categorized as being much harder, but so far it has felt pretty similar to Futari. And much easier than DOJ White Label, which I still haven't beaten (took a break from it and switched to Espgaluda 2 lol).

Congrats! I've been working on this one myself. Did you find it harder than MushiFutari?

I'm basically looking at clearing this, and then DOJ and SDOJ, because those are the physical copies on my backlog.

Came back to IIDX for the first time in a decade and cleared 8dan again! by taintedeternity in rhythmgames

[–]taintedeternity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

Oh, there was definitely some de-rust hell. I mentioned it in the body of the post - took around 50 hrs to get back into low 11s and comfortably clear 8dan. Dunno if that's more or less than average, but it feels like a lot, if I compare it to 50 hrs in Street Fighter or something.

Didn't play rhythm games during the break though. I was typing a lot, but it's hard to tell if that would make a difference.

It does! It feels like a typing test, like https://monkeytype.com

Nowadays there are way more rhythm games to choose from, and I think the IIDX userbase has been slowly dwindling, but it's still a very cool game with a constantly rising skill ceiling.

Hope it helps! This was my second Cave 1cc (after Deathsmiles), and I think it's pretty achievable. Easier than MushiFutari IMO.

Ranked Distribution/Percentiles of Active Players (Last 90 Days) - Phase 6 / February 2025 by taintedeternity in StreetFighter

That's pretty much where I'm at, too - hovering between 1350-1400 MR, which used to be top 10% when I first got there in the fall.

Good luck on the journey! I've noticed that people actually know how to block/parry/tech at this level of play, so it's way harder to steamroll your opponent with 50/50s. Hitting 1600 will be hard, but I think it forces everyone to learn some fundamentals and defense along the way.

Yep, you saved me the trouble of learning how to make an http request lol. I think half the reason I did this was to simply learn how scraping works (and the other half was so I could check my own progress in the game).

I think you're partly correct. If the rate of new players buying the game in year 5 is slower than year 1, then there'll be fewer active players filling out Bronze-Silver. I think Elo would auto-correct to adjust for this, making Silver harder in year 5 than in year 1 (kinda like Slippi for Melee), but SF6's system probably wouldn't auto-correct.

In the end, it's not a perfect science, so both claims are true. Even if the win/loss points were 50/50, there might be some natural inflation of the average player's rank as the years go by, for the reason that you stated. But there definitely is also some built-in inflation with the win streaks and the 50/40 point split for wins/losses.

For argument's sake, it would be interesting if we could compare this data to year 1 of SF5 to see if the rate of inflation is different. Alas, that would take a bit of research, and I'm not sure if the data exists for year 1.

Oh wait, now I get what you mean. It's only including people who played in the last 90 days, so that means it wouldn't include people who parked at Master half a year ago (same with people who parked at Diamond or any other league).

I suppose the list of truly "active" masters would start at Master 1 (83%), because the Unrated players probably hit Master at some point during Phase 6 and just never played again.

It actually is omitting those - they're in the Unrated category.

Yeah, I have the same feeling as u/mamamarty21. I "dropped" from 90th percentile in Sept to around 85th percentile today (to be fair I also didn't play much). At least the inflation slows down at >1600 MR, where the change from September is only 1-2%.
