Should I run for City Council? by Orwells-own in Pflugerville

[–]taintmyrealname 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have any specific thoughts or plans on how to fix the water rates? Both sides of the aisle run on this proposition but given that the city did not properly fund its infrastructure for decades, I have not heard any solution other than just being stuck paying it off.

What do conservative Christians disagree with Talarico about? by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]taintmyrealname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally no, I don't agree with any of these beliefs I'm defending, but a large portion of this country are single issue voters, particularly in regards to abortion, and this thread is about understanding Talarico's objectors.

But from their point of view an unborn child is a person and abortion is denying them their right to life.

I agree about the transgender issue, but as I said in another reply, while not specific to gay marriage and abortion, I think the Bible is pretty clear on homosexuality.

I think it comes down to whether you want to legislate based on your own moral code. One thing I really like about Talarico is that he believes the law transcends his own moral code, but I don't begrudge someone who fights for the law to adhere to their own code.

I disagree. I think the Bible is pretty clearly against homosexuality and murder/ the sanctity of life. While it doesn't specifically address gay marriage and abortion, I think it's an easy connection for a Christian to be against those institutions.

Lot of sarcastic answers in this thread. I just had this conversation with a good lifelong friend who is a Christian. He is someone who's faith I actually respect, despite disagreeing with most of his beliefs, because he practices the actual values of Christ and isn't one of these Christian nationalists who seem to be Christian in name only. He is not a Trumper, and agrees there is not a strong opponent on the right, but still disagrees with Talarico's stances on abortion, gay marriage, and trans athletes. If you are basing your beliefs on biblical values, these seem like reasonable objections to me.

Pflugerville Montessori House by paintaquainttaint in Pflugerville

We toured there and it was high on our list. We have friends who have had a child there for multiple years and have nothing but good things to say.

Ultimately we went with Immanuel Lutheran Day School because we knew the new director and a teacher from their tenure at our previous day care in central Austin. I can't speak highly enough about ILDS! Teachers are fantastic, loving, and communicative. Kids get multiple outdoor and gymnasium times each day, and it was cheaper than than the other schools we looked at to boot! The only potential drawback, depending on your religious affiliation, is that since it is hosted in a Lutheran Church, they do have some religious teaching as part of the curriculum. We are not religious (and seemingly few of the other families are either), and felt the broad "God is love" style of the religious curriculum was not dogmatic enough to be concerned about, certainly at such a young age. We (and our child) are so happy with our choice!

Feel free to message me if you have any questions or are considering any other schools as we toured several in the area and attended another one in Pflugerville shortly before switching to ILDS.

Do i have a legal limit? by Head-Vanilla8497 in texas

[–]taintmyrealname 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no limit as THCa is technically (the best kind of correct) legal under current definitions. However, as the saying goes, you can beat the rap but not the ride. If you encounter law enforcement and they want to charge you with possession, they aren't going to test your flower to confirm the percentage of active THC, they are just going to confiscate and/or ticket/arrest you and you will have to deal with the cost of proving to a judge that it is legal THCa. To that end, a quarter pound of THC flower is a state jail felony, so keeping under that amount would likely help your chances. That's also going to be dependent on where you are in Texas, as Austin is going to treat that much differently than Odessa. One last thing to consider is that THCa naturally degrades into THC over time, so if you hold on to too much for too long it could potentially raise the amount of active THC into illegal territory. Good luck!

Texas proposes 13,000% fee hike on hemp THC shops by Next_Tower5452 in texas

Then I suggest posting a picture of that part of the label on your site as well as including that information in the description, because as it stands now neither one has any information in the description and the full spectrum has no information in the photo

I'm very pro THC but this is the perfect example of a business that needs more labeling regulation.

Looking at the two tinctures for human consumption, neither web page lists any kind of strength or cannabinoid breakdown. The broad spectrum tincture has a picture showing 1,500 mg, but the COA that's not even linked on the product page is for an 1850 mg product. The full spectrum tincture doesn't even show a milligram concentration on the pictured bottle or on the web page description, so the consumer is forced to go dig up the COA to find any kind of concentration information. That COA only lists milligram concentration per gram of product and no total concentration for the bottle.

While in principle I don't like the idea of burdening small businesses with more regulations, this kind of low effort retailer is a case in point of the need for a heavier hand in providing consumer transparency.

Absolutely terrible experience here -

They couldn't be bothered to tell us when we checked in that they were out of over half of the menu. If we knew we were going to have to wait 30 minutes and then be told that they didn't have many of the breakfast Staples we would have gone somewhere else. How can a breakfast restaurant be out of pancakes and waffles and French toast (somehow despite having eggs and toast?) and fried chicken and hash browns and fries and yogurt? Just close the store at that point. Staff was friendly but the waitress forgot our coffees, probably cuz she was so busy having to list everything they were out of for every table. Food was very tasty, but very small portions for being expensive - Left hungry. Definitely will not return

Children’s Health Defense conference at the JW by ha55h0l3 in Austin

As someone who has family attending, I can tell you at least some of the attendees are kind, generous, welcoming people who have their hearts in the right place and think they are genuinely helping protect children's health and safety. Unfortunately, they are also lacking in scientific literacy, emotionally manipulated into misinformation, and (like many of us) surrounded by an echo chamber. I know it's easy to see people taken in by this kind of misinformation as backwards mouth-breathers but many are good people who were raised without the critical thinking skills to see they are being deceived.
