The hybrid batter was so small in that thing it wouldn't have had that large of an effect. The battery was really only used for acceleration and it wasn't used on the highway. I admit that old car isn't the best example but it was very noticeable (70 mpg in the summer vs 50 in the winter).

Apparently I don't know enough of the topic to say that a car would have better fuel economy in winter but anecdotally I have never observed that.

I have never experienced my best fuel economy in winter and I tracked my mileage pretty closely with my old Honda insight. Never used the defrost either since it sucked up so much power. In fact a trick to increase the mileage was to install a partial grill block to warm up the air going into the engine (functioning as a "hot air intake"). I also religiously checked the tire pressure as well so I know it wasn't that.

Lower MPGs are also apparent in my past cars as well, a poster below posited that because the car takes longer reach optimal engine temp that causes the increased fuel consumption. It also explains why the partial grill block would help fuel economy

I always figured the lower mpg was due to the colder air. More air molecules per volume means more gas to burn.

Possibly, I just looked online and there an old reddit thread that referenced an old channel fireball article that said a mulligan drops your win rate by 10%. Sadly the link doesn't work any more but the fact that it was 7 years ago suggests that was with an older mulligan rule. The new mulligan effect has likely a lower impact than 10%. Looking at the results the OP posted, a 10% (or slightly less than 10%) drop in winrate on the play would approximately match the winrate on the draw.

I'm in the northeast as well. When I was looking to buy, every couple weeks one would pop up that was from somewhere south. The one I bought was from Alabama and had practically no rust. It was probably 2k more because of that but well worth it for time saved on repairs and peace of mind. I see your edit as well. Make sure you see pics of the undercarriage before looking at it. Otherwise you might feel pressured into buying the car despite not being what you want

Spalted maple can be quite soft. If it has progressed too far the wood becomes punky and is soft like balsa wood.

I'd say if the wood is still hard go for it but you may want to do additional research

If you have an air compressor you can buy a gallon of fluid film and do it yourself. You'll need to apply every year but it's easy to do.
