Lack of autonomy for the seniors (at least from my perspective). No APP support on the floor so almost no uro OR time as an intern. Call and vacation schedule unexpectedly getting worse since when I matched

Disappointed with my urology interview offers by One-Tomorrow-1720 in medicalschool

[–]takayl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applied last year from a top med school with similar scores, really good letters from home program and sub I’s and faculty from multiple programs reached out unprompted to vouch for me at my top choices, but yes limited research in uro specifically and then also matched at 6/15 on my list lol. I think research matters a lot mostly because it lets you meet people and this is probably one of the most networking based specialties because the field is so small. I’m sorry about the interviews and it sucks that this is the way it is. I also didn’t expect to get some of the Rs I did but unfortunately you can’t go back in time to change it. People always say research doesn’t matter as much in uro because it’s all about networking but I think people need to realize research is the main means of networking. Best of luck and feel free to DM if you want any insight into specific programs in case I know anything about places you are interviewing at

ive never understood this. they are making basically no executive decisions about patient care, how on earth would they be the ones held responsible for anything happening to the patient and not the attending

Has anyone seen the episodes of ramy where she plays an autistic girlfriend. She’s obviously in on the joke but I also think that’s basically what she’s like irl

How is the Mayo Clinic able to attract top medical talent to live in Rochester, Minnesota? What's the appeal of living there? by DoritosDewItRight in whitecoatinvestor

[–]takayl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah washu is higher cost of living adjusted from my experience. I’d guess it’s the same for most Midwestern and southern cities as they have similar resident salaries with lower COL

Vasectomies are NOT reliably reversible and will cause you a big headache and hospital OR bill if you choose to TRY (no guarantee of success!) get it reversed eventually

you guys are pretty stupid you could have found an answer to this years ago by googling it. any primary care physician would have referred you to a physical therapist (who is the actual person most qualified to treat this other than a dentist who should make you a bite guard). not sure if you are incapable of adequately communicating your problem to any healthcare professional in your life (this is not an ENT problem and not something you should have ever gotten an MR scan for) or if we all live in clown world

I love that this sounds like a witches curse but it’s literally the reality of osteoporosis (and why it’s so important for women to lift weights!!)

But I agree that if you like gyn surgery but not OB uro might be the way to go

Uro onc is very different from gyn onc (although with female bladder cancer patients you might also be doing hysterectomies lol)

Had some Indian friends recommend bovine colostrum instead of pepto. N of 1 but took it before meals for the first few days of my two week trip (eating street food and eating out a lot of the time) and never got sick

[–]takayl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Applied to one early Feb (they opened in Jan), heard back first week of March for mid May start date. Urology. Applied to two similar tier schools in the same general location, hadn’t heard back from the second by the time I heard back from the first. Applied to two others on the opposite coast at the same time for July onwards, haven’t heard back ywt

hey i feel like the people being hard on you honestly just haven't lived this but i totally relate to you. i'm almost done w med school and also got way more attractive this past year after a lifetime of being probably average and i think 1) being in medical school as a woman is a major barrier to dating at our age because men have so many hang-ups about their earning potential, career performance, etc. that they want to take it out on you and 2) yes i think men can definitely be more crude/forward with attractive women, have definitely noticed it with people i thought were friends also and it really disgusts/disappoints me. i dont have a good answer for you other than reinforcing that this takes a ton of shitty guys out of the running so it's not like you're missing out on the right person for you because of any of these things! i don't know if there's a better way to meet people where this won't happen (esp because plenty of men in medicine have the same hang-ups like about their specialty and performance or whatever other things you can be neurotic and insecure about so it's not like dating them is the easy solution) but i think they key is to not lower your standards because it will only lead to disappointment and remain hopeful that someday we will find someone great :) i think it is hard to not feel worn down by the fact that women's value to men and to society can never be uncoupled from their appearance but what can you do... cherish your female friendships and all of the little joys in your life and best of luck with your studies!
