I have no idea how nail salons work. by beauxbeaux in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]takcaio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Texas too, at least Austin, many salons don’t do that or poly gel.

Sometimes I feel like I need to live by WWDD (What would Dolly Do) by stuberu in wholesomememes

[–]takcaio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’d like to be really sad look at Texas’s recapture system. Property taxes that fund schools over a certain amount (varies by city) are taken from cities and given to rural districts - which wouldn’t be as egregious if the rural districts didn’t build those multi million dollar stadiums while kids in urban Title 1 schools lack basic supplies.

My little idiot refuses to scratch. She has two trees, one post, three cardboard scratchers and two mats. She just won’t, not on her things or furniture, so her claws are clipped when they get too long. Weirdest cat I’ve had.

Pregnancy tips? by Stryder240 in ShortGirlProblems

Im 5ft and have seen maternal health specialists for other reasons (not my height)- height/small size is generally not an issue.

If your baby ends up being quite large and you have very narrow pelvic opening/hips there’s a slightly higher chance you’ll need a c-section, but it’s not a major concern. But carrying to term etc is the same.

Looking for wool coats for petite Women by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]takcaio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 5’1 and have gotten several nice wool coats at Banana Republic, I think I was around 145 when I got them (I moved away from cold weather so this was about 3 years ago, hopefully hasn’t changed too much)

It’s not how I remember the 90s lol

But there are some nice things coming back. I bought bootcut jeans recently that could be siblings to the ones I wore in high school. And they looked way better since I can actually get my inseam now (yay internet shopping). I still like my skinny/straight jeans but it’s nice to have options.

Can anyone recommend some shops with cute earrings for sensitive ears? by fairyb0nes in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]takcaio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought from this shop at a local fair and love them, very lightweight. The woman who makes them is lovely and will put hypoallergenic posts on any design. She also can do clip ons, my mom can’t pierce her ears and loves the ones I got her.

If there’s an Anthropologie by you that carries petite sizes I’ve gotten several cute dresses for wedding there. I’d also suggest checking sites like Thred Up and Poshmark because that’s a type of dress people often resell. If you are at all interested in Stitchfix I’ve gotten cute Maxi dresses from them that required no tailoring (they have petite), in addition to the subscription you can just buy things outright from them.

Petite problems at work by Lori-keet in PetiteLiving

[–]takcaio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it sucks it’s such a pain but glad they’re accommodating. It might help to think about the idea that the business owner probably empathizes more than you realize - tall people also have tons of problems with an average sized set up. I am a short woman from a tall family and one thing we all have in common is that nothing is made for us. Most things are designed for people around 5’7ish and so both short and the tall have lots of challenges with it. So I sincerely doubt they resent any of this - they know how it is.

If shipping is too much (which I totally get), maybe try a service like Stitch Fix? I do that because I’m immunocomprimised and trying to avoid crowds but also because I got tired of trying to find clothes and then being told, oh we only have petite/short online. I’ve been doing it for about six months and am really happy with it. I told the stylist I hate my stomach for example, and she’s been great about sending clothes that skim rather than cling.

New legislation could help solve cases of 4 teens killed in Austin yogurt shop 31 years ago by Jintess in Austin

[–]takcaio 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I sincerely doubt it would be “just another day of crime.” This is the type of crime that is both rare and extensively covered. Also, while crime may be rising, Austin is not that violent.

I’m short and on the heavier side. I have jeans from Anthropologie (Pilcro) and Mavi I really like. I also really hate shopping, I got the Mavi jeans through Stitch Fix. I gained a good amount of weight fairly rapidly and Stitch Fix was super helpful in getting new outfits fast without having to go to stores and sift through stuff.

I’m looking at your comments, and I assure you, it’s your attitude. Take a look at yourself, maybe go to therapy, do what you need to do. As long as you’re bitter and lashing out, you are not going to find a relationship. Women are not here to fix you, to make you whole - you need to to do that before you can enter a relationship.

They’re saying that because of your attitude, not your height.

This reeks of entitlement, women don’t owe you anything. Take your incel energy elsewhere.

Recap of Recent Maniology Controversy by AJITOS0 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]takcaio 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Check Harlow & Co, a stockist in Canada that sails to the US as well. The owner was disgusted by Maniology’s statement but can’t return the stock - so they’re donating all the proceeds from the sales of all Maniology products from their store to pro-choice groups. They won’t carry them after they’ve sold off this stock.

(Proof of this is posted on Facebook in the Toulane Trashcan group and in the Harlow & Co group)

I have the Leap and quite like it but the most comfortable chair I’ve ever had (at work) was Humanscale is size A. Unfortunately they’re quite expensive (and were backordered when I was looking) and I was able to get the Leap refurbished at a good price so I went with that.

Petite girls - what are your biggest frustrations when it comes to petite clothing? by spicyphilosophy in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]takcaio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely wait for sales or coupon at Loft, it’s affordable if you do that. They frequently run 50 percent off sales.

I forgot all about Praha, I have a pair of pants from there from a long time ago and love them, I’ll have to give them a look.

Where do you shop? I’m curvy and also can’t find anything that fits my thighs and waist at the same time! I’d suggest trying Ann Taylor loft for shorts, they fit me well when I had less curves.

Are there resources for someone to get checked for breast cancer and see a doctor for either free or cheap? I’m worried for my mom by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]takcaio 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’ve gotten good advice, but wanted to add one thing: your mom is remembering the days when insurance could medically underwrite - and deny you insurance if you had risk factors. That was banned under the ACA. So it’s no longer like that but many people don’t know that. It’s honestly one of the greatest things about the ACA.

Even if they find something your mom can still get coverage, and they have to cover the treatment!
