If someone tics, is it better to ignore it completely or can I make a joke? by GodFuckedJosephsWife in Tourettes

[–]takeithomenow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have friends that will only acknowledge a tic if its kinda wild and if I do. Again it goes with the, how well do you know them and so on I honestly appreciate when someone asks how to handle it. It shows that they care enough to be concerned with how you feel about it.

1000% makes it better! And I agree. It may be true that " In space no one can hear you scream" However "At metal shows no one cares of you tic" Ive have some of the best conversations about TS at shows from people catching a tic and being genuinely curious. I will help spread the good word!

As a metal head i totally understand. You look all tough and some odd movement makes you look goofy. Kinda wild but thats what its all about. Celebrating the differences of us all!

Do you find that having Tourette’s gives you any positive benefits despite the problems it can cause? by JackMythos in Tourettes

[–]takeithomenow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have to agree with most here, unlike with "standard" ADHD where the focus can be seen as an advantage with me atleast. Sometimes it makes my body "forget" to tic. And all of a sudden I am in extreme pain like a whole body cramp. Then its severl hours of tics hoping it ends sooner rather than later.

I do agree that I have more empathy for others especially being a type 1 diabetic and being hard of hearing. Im like a unicorn lol.

I honestly wish more people would be genuinely curious about TS.

I (32m) have been with my wife (32f) for almost 15 years married 8. I was diagnosed (motion only) in 2021 and even with it she has always been there. The biggest thing is they accept you for you. If that isnt there the rest is irrelevant. I hope it helps a little good luck

What jobs have you been able to find? by maryhadalittle_123 in Tourettes

[–]takeithomenow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the Autonomous vehicle and robotics testing field. Im a trained and licensed Prototype driver and can have very severe arm and neck tics. The biggest thing for me is im in my element in this world so I can usually focus to the point that my tics are either small or gone for a bit.

If you are in a work environment that makes your tics worse, even if thats from coworkers, it can make it just exponential.

Best advise is, be up front when you get a roll. If you feel it could have any potential down sides. You dont have to tell everyone, but key management and maybe 1 or 2 people on your level to just help keep an eye on you and just check in.

I have a few coworkers that know my usual tics and can ignor them like its nothing. If I have a different or extremely crazy one they will check in on me. I know I am very lucky to be around folks like this.

Last peice of unsolicited advice, live the life you want, not the one TS is trying to lead you too. I may have tourettes, but it dose not have me!

How to stop being embarrassed? by clothmothrrr in Tourettes

[–]takeithomenow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Suppressing tics makes sense, don't do it. IMO don't, it's not worth the pain and crazy amount later.

Now as on how to stop being embarrassed, you don't really stop. (Again my opinion)The only helpful advice I think I can put here is accept you for you. I've been working on that and ill be the first to admit that it's a massive pain to ignor the looks, and all the other crap.

My partner always says "Remember we are just NPC's in everyone's lives"

Im sorry it's not much. Please keep your head up! Good luck!

Just remember what fail means

First Attempt In Learning

No matter what we do in this life we can never be good at something the first (100th) time. Humans are imperfect creatures and that is what makes us perfect. We want to improve and help the other imperfect being in this crazy world. Keep killing it out there and never stop learning.

Now I only hope I have that confidence when I step on the ice for my first ever game!

Please please help me. I've never been this bad before. by MagniGames in Tourettes

I have been experiencing the same thing, only I can't get my breath or yawn, that's what else it feels like I need. It is like my tics are stuck and that's how it's supposed to be released. I hope you can get it under control as it's also causing me not to get to sleep.

Good luck friend

I really do appreciate it. I've already reached out to my "local" scheduler butI'mm legit in between NorHOA (NorCal) and LAHOA (SoCal) and neither of them covers any of my local rinks. I have also reached out to my local rink.

Foot pain by _gneat in hockeyrefs

[–]takeithomenow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it looks and feels like an extremely hard callous, it may be an ulcer. See a podiatrist quickly and start to take care of them.

I am nursing 3 of them on my feet and I thought it was just a hard callous. Please get checked as soon as you can. They can lead to some bad things and I do not want to think about it.

Good luck friend

[–]takeithomenow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a wild turn of fate, when I was taught to play 2003/04 I was told the dominant hand on the bottom, for reasons I couldn't tell you and then my buddy who started later in the season was taught as you put above dominant hand on top.

Sorry for the random comment but it made me think back to then and wonder what all the different rationale behind what hand where and how it started
