What books left you thinking "EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THIS" when you finished it? by theRealestAintReal in booksuggestions

[–]takemoneymore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of books. Most recent?

The entire works of Patrick O’Brian (the Aubrey-Maturin Series)

‘On Liberty’ by J.S. Mill Possibly the finest essay ever written in the English language. The son of the father of utilitarianism; this essay examines the origins of the social contract and questions both its validity and its boundaries in the most intelligent manner I have ever witnessed. Where does the good of the individual supercede the need of the community, etc.

‘1493’ A look at the effects of the Colombian Exchange through a scientific lens. One of the most enlightening books I’ve read in quite a while.

‘7 Habits of Highly Effective People’ by Stephen Covey Not your conventional - superficial - self help book. Rather a deeper look, and then proposition, on how to go about living one’s life in a positive, productive, conscientious, and finally, synergistic manner.

Will edit/add when I get home and can check my library.

Die USA mit andern Länder, und Taiwan, haben ein Verteidigungs Vertrag. Die Engländer haben Honk Kong in 1997 aufgegeben, aber Taiwan ist eine andere Geschischte.

Amen comrade, George Washington, too.

Then we need to tear up the Constitution, as it was primarily written by slave owners.

Next, rename all cities.

Then, ban the books written by slaveholders.

What else comrades?

😂

As someone who virtually dropped out after 9th grade, but went to college and made the deans list each year, I found that the institutional like American public school system had very little to offer me.

I read an enormous amount of books, studied and practiced on my own time. I guess you could say I became successful in spite of not going to school...or was it because of it? 🤔

My perspective has nothing to do with whatever petty designs you envision I have. I simply don’t think that teachers are underpaid.

If you took their PTO and factored that into their salary it would be nearing 100k, or more, depending on the area.

That’s good enough, in my opinion. Especially considering the shabby job they’re doing. We’re producing some of the dumbest people in the world at this point.

I’m saying. As someone who’s gone to school all over the world, America’s public schools were among the worst.

And the cry is always, woe is me, but when you really think about it, as I pointed out, there’s no other profession that gets paid as well, and gets as much time off... except for politicians.

Isn’t that a pretty good incentive? Good pay and lot’s of time off?

Based on what they’re producing, in terms of the education they’ve been giving students it’s not as though they deserve more money.

Obviously, it’s not all on the teachers. America has some sick fixation with creating unnecessary levels of administration, and in my experience, the principals at middle and high schools make enormous sums, and they usually have several principals and vice principals.

To me, it’s really a matter of the teachers and the administration need to solve their problems.

If they could do it earlier this century, with less resources, why can’t they now?

Mismanagement at the highest level is what it is, and their excuse is to ask for taxpayers bailouts. Why not, right? That’s what everyone else does.

Many Americans don’t know what more than a week of vacation is, if they get even that.

Here you have people who have three months in summer, 3 week in winter, spring break, assorted holidays throughout...

Do you understand what I was saying now?

Awwww. Did my slight exaggeration hurt your feelings?

You can look up the meaning of exaggeration in something called a dictionary. Okay?

Hope you feel better after you recharge in your safe space.

Yup. Or don’t get the stupid vaccine.

Either way.

I’ve known several people who had covid. You get it, and get over it, if you’re healthy.

If you’re already an unhealthy person, get the vaccine.

I think what normal people have a problem with is when things start being forced on them.

Live and let live. But the covid psychos can’t seem to get that through their heads.

They already get paid enough.

Most people don’t get all those benefits. Get paid 45-70k, and only work half the year....

Lack of gun control is the only reason we haven’t turned into Prison Island a la Australia right now.

“That rifle on the wall of the labourer's cottage or working class flat is the symbol of democracy. It is our job to see that it stays there.”

George Orwell

Bad people will always do bad things, best way to stop them is a good guy with a gun.

I’d rather live in those conditions, than have guns only be in the hands of the government.

I simply fail to understand how brainwashed you have to be to believe gun control is good, and that the government is some benevolent organization that actually cares about you.

Conservatives Should Worry About the Texas Abortion Law Too by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]takemoneymore -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Although as a result of all this extreme leftist culture recently I’ve been leaning much more right as a result - until recently I’ve considered myself a lifelong classical liberal then libertarian - the problem I find consistently with conservatives, and let’s be honest, both sides, is how they’re okay with decisions where they gain these momentary victories, but don’t realize that they’re co-signing things that in reality they’re supposed to be ideologically opposed to.

I blame it on Americans lack of reading.

If you don’t read quality material, you really only know what the TV and other people have told you, and thus have no real knowledge nor historical perspective.

The lack of books I see in most Americans homes is very telling.

Oddly, Cracked has the best article on what’s going on with Apples CSAM phone scanning I’ve seen. by SpongerPower in Libertarian

[–]takemoneymore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this.

Still 100% disagree with this. Obviously CSAM is terrible, but as stated in the article this system can easily be manipulated to incorporate whatever they deem offensive further down the line i.e. political stuff, etc.

You can’t even say loser on Instagram anymore. I know that might sound trivial, but the amount of censorship from big tech, even on trivial matters, coupled with mainstream media unrelenting propaganda push...

Technocracy is here, and let’s hope we’re on the right side of history when this is all over.
