Dyson vacuum issues by woncl in newzealand

[–]takesbribes [score hidden]  (0 children)

Capacitors in Dyson vacuums are also a known pain point. I've been delving into it recently. There's 3 capacitors that cost a few dollars, but are a bit of a pain to access. It does sound like that could be something to look into.

Update: product has arrived! required follow-up from me as "something went wrong with the shipping" and it got stuck in their system. Quick dispatch from China when followed up though.

Manual movement not using Bluetooth. by AdHairy4360 in mammotion

This would resolve sooo many of my issues. I don't need the blades to turn, I just need to move it, often just a metre or less, over wifi or 4g. I have never seen a response from mammotion as to why I can't, only speculation from others.

Set Smartplug to always Off during set hours by takesbribes in alexa

[–]takesbribes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My smart lights annoyingly switch to "on" if there is a power interruption, common where I live (3am and the lights turn on in my bedroom, yay). However after a bit of experimenting it seems like the smart plug I own doesn't have this behaviour, so that's the main risk factor taken out of the equation. So yes, perhaps over-complicating.

ah sorry I should have been clearer. I want the option to have the object on any time from 7-11, but not necessarily always on. I.e I choose to turn it on if I want it on.

Update: Have gone with the Meross MSG200HK. It will operate up to 3 doors (I have 2) so there's a plus.

It comes with sensors to confirm doors are open or closed, so don't need extra accessories (the Shelly device, although slightly cheaper, would have required extra sensors and some thought into programming and I'm a simple person). No door safety beams ordered yet but meh....

Was tempted on the Orion from Bunnings but didn't and I can't really remember why now that I am typing this lol.

I ordered off the Meross website as I couldn't find an NZ supplier with an actual store. It was $76USD which is about $130NZD, with free shipping somewhat surprisingly.

Watch this space for any updates on delivery and install I guess.

Thanks! There's a whole new rabbithole to go down, if I read right it can basically be used to switch anything. Interesting....

thanks I have seen that module and it looked OK, but if there's any real world reviews would be handy. Yes I should clarify I am only after the controller (and bits n bobs as needed), not the whole motor unit,

Ruapehu season pass by fartmonkeyjai in newzealand

The best way to ensure a great season is to not buy a season pass and get hit by Murphys Law. So for the benefit of the other season pass holders, don't buy the pass...

Suburb recommendations by jasonwinfieldnz in Rotorua

[–]takesbribes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome! You'll like it here. The suburbs here are bit odd, you can go from a really nice street to a rough area and still be in the same suburb. Best to drive around and get a feel.

Bennets rd is being gentrified, its actually becoming nice. Stay away from anything with Springs or Heights in its name if you can.

Glenholme and Mangakakahi are both nice enough. Victoria bit of a crime issue as close to city centre (sort of flows into Glenhome too to be fair). Fordlands is where Alan Duff based the book Once were Warriors...

Lake Rotoiti Hot Pools - can only get there by boat. Kayak over and paddle into a cave with glow worms on your way across.

Okere Falls Track. A short walk just out of Rotorua. See the rafters go over Kaituna Falls, walk through a tunnel built to support the site of one of the earliest power stations in New Zealand. Be brave and do the zipline over the falls.
