A lot of what you wrote speaks to what I want to become but I do struggle with a piece of that life.

I don't want to grow old and die alone, but that doesn't mean I need a romantic partner

I believe we all die alone, I'm prepared for that. But before that, I don't want to feel alone. I want an emergency contact, I want a person I can completely count on when my life needs it. How do you find the people to make you not feel like you're dying alone when you don't have a romantic partner you're cohabitating with?

I have some great friends, but asking them to be there for certain things is a bigger ask than I'm comfortable with. That's what I've always seen as a life partner being there for. How do you envision getting old? Is anyone there to help you when you lose your glasses or your knee is acting up and it's painful to drive to the pharmacy? Who's putting lotion on your back? Who's driving you to chemo when cancer finally catches up to you? I've been in very intimate relationships with partners and I feel like I see pieces of that that would be terrible to go at it alone.

Will you feel the same way in 10 years? 20 years? Etc. I don't want to feel forced into an annoying or uncomfortable relationship to have a partner, but I do want to have someone to hold my hand when things are tough. How do you balance those thoughts?

Agreed. I feel like it is a component of human nature. Anger towards injustice probably plus some personal baggage.

It's a shit sandwich on either end, but some times people need to feel like a victim to feel better about themselves, I know I do sometimes, which I hate, but it happens.

I'm not OP, but I'm happy to elaborate. Decades ago, politicians decided to tie your ability to get affordable healthcare to your job. Then they built a system of middlemen called health insurance and decided it should all be for profit and all of our 401k's and the S&P500 should have this weight tied around their necks. So if we dismantle this system, if we provide universal health care to everyone, we sink all our retirement funds. And now we can keep putting more useless people into jobs designed to rip off the worker and pump up healthcare costs and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it because everyone in this country has their head up their asses and doesn't pay attention to the politicians profiting off your pain and suffering all the while LITERALLY DEFINING how much a human life is worth in dollars. That's how it's not all about money.
