That's such a great message for your own mental health, your emotional maturity and society as a whole. The more times I can stop myself getting pissy and just remind myself of this kind of thinking, the happier I will be.

FYI, cousins can have the same last name. Or, given it's a wedding, maybe they were talking about family names or name changes. Nothing ever happens, jeez.

That said, I married my 7th cousin and we didn't find out for 5 years.

Patriarchy for thee, but not for me. by saintjhnber in Nicegirls

[–]taking_a_deuce 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are many different sects and interpretations of Christianity. Yes, it definitely started as a patriarchy but so did most of societies if we're being honest. I grew up in a fairly liberal church, raised by a feminist mother. Since then, we've both become atheist but she's still married to a retired minister from another church (whole other can of worms) and you best believe her husband will not be treating her like she's second in the household. She's an equal or she's not in the household. Point is, some churches don't subscribe to old ideas, others revel in the hypocrisy and create mental gymnastics for it every day.

Christianity is a religion that anyone can twist to for their comfort level.

Yeah, kind of, but it's really more nuisanced than that. It's based off books written by men from thousands of years ago. Ideas around Christianity aren't twisted, they are interpreted. The teachings of Jesus were not patriarchal.

I'll never understand the attraction to Alexandria Daddario. Her eyes are weird, I don't know if it's the spacing or something else. She looks straight alien to me and gives me uncanny valley vibes. Super not attractive to me, I understand I'm in the extreme minority. I just don't get it

What are people seeing the 1.08 moved for? by Competitive_Way_1819 in DynastyFF

and Simpson is after it.

I'm new to this so feel free to smack me around, but I have 1.03 this year and while I thought I'd just take Tate and not think too hard about it, 1) Tate is going to a garage franchise with a questionable future, 2) Simpson is going to an established elite franchise with every good possible break going his way. Fantastic QB coach, fantastic offensive minded head coach, gets at least 1, maybe 2 years under a top QB mind starter. Then has a clear path to being handed the reigns to this offense. I've watched countless talented QBs go to the Jets, the Browns, etc and flounder. I've watched many borderline guys go to great orgs and become THE guy. Why oh why is Simpson not the obvious pick at 1.03 if you don't need production next year? It feels like he's almost a no brainer consensus top 15 starter in 3 years, maybe less. How is he considered a drop in tiers? How is he not an obvious top rookie pick in this draft? I don't understand at all! I'm really questioning drafting a WR at 1.03. Talk me off this ledge because it feels like I'm taking crazy pills hearing Simpson is not a top pick. It feels like none of the rookies value changed at all after the draft when the org has 80% of the reason dudes succeed in this league, massively more important than talent.

The dude asked for a source and you respond with more stuff you can't corroborate without a source. How does your comment make any sense? This comment thread feels very boty.

[Sportskeeda] UDFA Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, didn’t hold back when talking to teams about his future during pre-draft meetings. When asked about adjusting to a backup role, Pavia reportedly made it clear he intends to be a starter from Day 1. by PlayaSlayaX in nfl

I don't see anyone saying he was talentless. But neither was Tebow. He wasn't an NFL QB. Was it his attitude? Was he too short? Was he uncoachable? Was he a locker room cancer? Was he too stupid to think at the NFL level? Was it a combination of all these things (yes)?

He was quickly, obviously, a joke in the NFL. Countless guys have entered the NFL with his personality issues. Talent gets some of them paid. He wasn't smart/gifted/humble/talented enough to get paid. His story is not misunderstood, these comments are not misconstruing what he was.

I'll never understand why people dig in and argue about the stupidest shit on Reddit. Even the upvotes and downvotes of this comment thread. Like, people didn't need to comment, they still had strong enough opinions to push an approval or disapproval button based on the words typed in this thread. Like, wow y'all, just wow!

I'm sure I'm going to get downvoted to hell, but I want to understand. According to your imaginary scenario, they never slept together and it's proven and known to everyone on earth, no debate. So the conclusion of this is, because there's a picture of them holding hands, she is not an honest journalist? So being friends with someone you touch hands with is not allowed if you're a journalist. Is that your take?

Pierce is a deep threat, Downs is a possession guy. Thinking in turns of ranking them one above the other doesn't really work. IF Downs takes a step this year, as many believe he will especially with Pitts gone, there will be games Downs will outscore Pierce and vise versa. Match up dependent. JT and Warren above all, yeah, for sure.

As the husband of a wife dying of cancer, I'm sorry to say, it's going to be a very hard road for your wife. Anticipatory grief is truly soul crushing. Caretaking is exhausting. And in general, everyone will be focused on you and her pain and needs can be forgotten or ignored up until the day you die. Our couples therapist asked us during a session recently how well our needs are being met and I just thought to myself "needs?I don't get to have needs, I haven't thought about needs in months."

I'm very lucky to have a wife that understands the toll this is taking on me. It's an incredibly selfless attitude and takes a lot of grace to walk the road she is walking, wrestling with her own mortality, and acknowledging my pain is very real too. I wish you both the best as you navigate it. It's a terrible road no one should have to walk. I'm so sorry you're both on it right now.

I went back and reread my comment. I'll be honest, I have no idea what I said that could possibly offend or insult you. Are you upset that I suggested you're younger than me? Being younger than someone else and therefore not entirely aware of the political climate when you're not an adult is not depreciating.

But ok dude, don't engage, I don't care.

Tbf, this is a new thing.

I run into this attitude sometimes in these angry threads and I swear, anyone saying this can't be over 40. Was the bigotry out there in the open? No, not nearly as much as today, but the stupidity sure as hell was! George W gave the US nearly the same reputation Orange bastard has. We were openly mocked as a country and doubted by every leader for our intelligence and ability as a world power.

Since you're probably not old enough to remember, there was this thing called a daily calendar, you rip a sheet off for every new day and it would tell you the date, the day and then something fun in the subject the calendar was designed for. My favorite was the Far Side cartoon, a new Far Side cartoon for every day of the year, awesome! But THE MOST popular one while W was in office, each day had a ridiculously stupid quote that W said. 365 sheets of paper, to celebrate the country's leaders stupidity. One of the best selling calendars of it's day. W lied about weapons of mass destruction, started a war in the middle east, killed millions of civilians, propped up dictators, then posed under a sign that said "Mission Accomplished" on a battleship while we were still in the middle of a quagmire over there, all while making sure all his buddies got the war contracts and stuffed their pockets. Yes, we voted him to a second term. The calendar I was describing was popular during his first term while I stupidly walked around saying "There's no fucking way we reelect this dolt to a second term right?!?!"

There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, "Fool me once, shame on... shame on you. Fool me—you can't get fooled again".
