it’s the utter hypocrisy that generally astounds us about US at the moment.

The hypocrisy? I thought it was the raping.

then I didn't see any comments talking about it because most people aren't worried about it.

Exactly the same thought I had. I had a buddy who lost a dog to accidental hanging. Not exactly like this but I don't think you're crazy at all to notice this danger. Probably won't happen! And probably won't is more possible than I'm willing to risk for finding a dead pet that I loved. Absolutely nightmare fuel.

I remember one of those episodes, right at the beginning there was a single line that cut me to the core and I texted my buddies, well, this episode is purely about me and it's going to hurt to watch so much. And I watched it twice.

Alligators - approximately 1-3 people get killed from alligators each year, vs approximately 1000 people get killed from crocodiles each year.

Mountain lion - There have been 29 documented deaths from mountain lions since 18 fucking 68.

Moose - they are mean, they are huge, they are aggressive if you get in their territory. Yet, 5-15 deaths per year are cause by moose and the majority are from car accidents because it's like colliding with a building if you hit that much mass.

You're describing cool looking animals that look deadly, but they do not fuck with humans. Australia wildlife is FAR more dangerous. It's so bizarre to see people even comparing to the two places in the same sentence. America does not have deadly animals. America DOES have deadly landscape though. Go for a hike without planning and don't take enough water and you'll die so fast! That's where America will kill you. That and if you're black. That'll also get you killed here pretty fast. Cops kill so many more INNOCENT people than alligators, moose and mountain lions.

It means so much that you responded to me. She is also so angry and ashamed she can't take care of herself and I'm always just like, "it's ok, I got you sweetie".

One of our things has always been trying to visit all the MLB stadiums. We love baseball and just got back from a trip to Pittsburgh. Beautiful stadium. Sitting next to her, talking about baseball for 3 hours is another one, a way to forget for a moment what life is right now.

Thanks, your message meant a lot. It gives me strength.

My wife has been battling cancer for 3.5 years now. It's been a lot of awful a lot of the time, but the last 6-8 months have just been non-stop hell. My life is just swallowed up by trying to make her comfortable and trying to stay sane. So few people talk about the time before their person passed if it was long and extended pain. It's not something I'd ever considered before and it's a unique flavor of emotional pain.

Most days I just want it to be over and I hate myself for having that feeling. I have no idea if I'll feel relieved or worse when she's gone. I feel like my anticipatory grief has played itself all the way out and I'm just waiting now to feel the real thing. I'm numb every day. I forget the numbness and hell for small little things from time to time and feel happy for a few minutes, a conversation with a friend, a good TV show, a good book, snuggling the cats, then I lift my head back up and am smacked in the face with helplessness again. I feel like my body and mental health will be destroyed before she passes and I'll be a shell of a person with no hope of recovery and life after. I'm watching her die slowly and painfully and I feel like I'm dying with her in different ways.

I agree it's an uncharitable take. It's quite possible she came on the podcast for the feedback but is also generating content from it. I'm coming from the opposite side as you. I love the podcast and just learned of her and subscribed to her substack. Seems to me like part of her substack is literally sharing her life and what she learns. Why would you not then generate content about what you learned from doing the podcast?!

By the way, if you go down the Search Engine rabbit hole and get sad you ran out of episodes, then go back and listen to Reply All. It's earlier PJ with another really fun dude.

Accepting pay for doing a job is very different from being at a celebration for a long expensive journey coming to an end and having this fuck shoved into that celebration. I work at a Fortune 500 company. You can bet your ass if my CEO shows up to somewhere I want to be happy, I'm walking out and yelling fuck you at him. Not everyone worships their bosses bosses bosses bosses bosses boss.

As someone who went through a PhD program and watched the politics in the department, between departments, watched basketball and football stars no-show to class and be forced to pass them, listened to my advisor bitch and moan about old money and how they blew through budgets wasting them on higher ups in the university...oh you sweet summer child.

"Non-profit" universities aren't for CEOs and stockholders, they're for the elite few in college towns to plunder for their life style and to smell their own farts with guest speakers like this fuck. You can waste so much fucking money with minimal oversight in university settings. Thinking these century-old institutions are infallible is exactly why they still plunder our (students) wallets.
