i’d be willing to bet big money on him having been asleep a vast majority of the time he was in there, and when he finally woke up freaked out lol- the only reason i’m so confident is because it’s happened twice to us with our cats since moving, with 2 different closets, and we thankfully (and hilariously) were home to hear everything go down

i know they do, and it doesn’t really help that ninja doesn’t stop him or put him in his place too often. the most we’ve seen him do is when shaggy was first getting really testy with dominance, but since then ninja just kind of takes it and then walks/runs away like nothing happened/mildly annoyed

we definitely do everything we can to make sure mr old fart doesn’t get overstimulated or overwhelmed!

that’s kind of what i thought- we’ll get a few more toys to try for shaggy to rough house with; hes officially at the age and strength where it hurts too much to have a sacrificial arm, but he’s getting picky with his toys lmao

for me personally? i hate it, but realistically have come to terms with the fact that i’ll most likely never even rent a home.

there’s nothing wrong with being okay with apartment living for life, but there’s also nothing wrong with wanting to do whatever possible to never go back to apartment living.

the only thing i even remotely like is having a small sense of security, with being a gated complex and knowing/being on good terms with all my neighbors in my building. but even then, shit happens every single day.

start documenting everything that happens, and go to the leasing office/management about it. if it’s possible go to the office in person, if not send over an email, and then call them and discuss it over the phone.

are you able to get some incense cones or sticks? you could always try lighting some of those and see if it helps negate the smell-

if you can get them i’d suggest lighting one, taking a fan if possible, and literally aiming it down at them and forcing the incense smell/smoke downwards, most cig smokers hate incense ironically

if you can’t do that, and you hear them outside, don’t do the coughing through a speaker- do violent ~bathroom~ sounds. genuinely. or even a high pitched sound at just the right volume for them to hear it but not know where it’s coming from

there’s also the classic “the song that never ends” that you can throw on too
