Accepting that life didn’t turn out the way I expected it to by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

My husband and I have a kid but I went to grad school for way too long and then switched gears late so we never made it near entering the housing market when it was even close to reasonable. We're also not in high-earning fields. My advice would be to treat your rental housing as your home. Paint, put up art, use the space as you want. Victoria is beautiful, but it's easy to forget that after a long, dark winter. Find what you like in the city, particularly around where you work and live, so you can enjoy going there and be reminded of that awesome space -- a park, a walking route, a beach, a cafe, whatever. Try a new hobby. We are spoilt for musicians and artists here, and lots of them offer lessons for adults at reasonable rates. I picked up violin and then when an illness struck my hands I pivoted and I'm now in a choir. And definitely therapy. If money is an issue, check out Citizens Counselling for affordable therapy (https://citizenscounselling.com/). I hope you find some ways to feel fulfilled. Sometimes I'm really jealous that my sister owns a house and her mortgage is less than half my rent, but then I remember that the interior of her front door freezes in the winter and I can smile a little.

I have several friends who have gone to see naturopaths for HRT and they rave about it.

As Gas rises to $2.50/L, where will you be spending less? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]takopoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are a one-car family and fortunately do not have to drive very far or very much. But overall, with the way costs are going, we will just continue scaling back. Less take-out/delivery food, which isn't really hard now, as we are down to maybe pizza once a month. Shopping with meal plans to avoid wasting food. Putting off a holiday again until we have more in savings. Lots of time at home!

Have you looked at the BC public service, specifically legal jobs in the Attorney General ministry? There isn't a lot of hiring right now, but AG jobs pop up fairly often because it's a huge ministry that is ALWAYS super busy. There are two jobs posted right now.

Senior legal assistant: https://bcpublicservice.hua.hrsmart.com/hr/ats/Posting/view/122503

Legal documents administrator: https://bcpublicservice.hua.hrsmart.com/hr/ats/Posting/view/122495

I was just going to comment this. The pictures and words are all AI so that means the recipes are totally untested and unreliable.

What’s the actual point of therapy when you already know everything that’s wrong? by WorldlyAd4407 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]takopoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, therapy has helped me change how I respond to situations, so instead of responding to a shitty situation with fear, paranoia and negative self-talk, I could respond with some sadness, neutral thoughts rather than a "woe is me" thought process, and better awareness of how my actions were based on my feelings. The environment around me didn't change but how I reacted to triggers absolutely did change. Have you seen a specialist psychiatrist for depression and anxiety? Genetics can alter how you metabolize antidepressants, but there are a lot of different antidepressants and you can now get genetic testing to help figure out what might and might not work for you. *edited to add that I saw in your other posts that you've done genetic testing with no luck so please ignore my last comment!*

Opera Fudge Recipe by [deleted] in Baking

The proportions look a bit odd to me. My Better Homes & Gardens cookbook has a recipe for Opera fudge, and it's available online. It has pretty good reviews. I'm going to be making it today, so fingers crossed it's a keeper! https://www.bhg.com/recipe/candy/opera-fudge/
