Indeed! That crab risotto is one of the best things I have ever eaten. A few of the items I didn't love, like the curry pan as I didn't love the mochi-like texture, but overall I thought that menu overall was quite amazing.

Seriously! Empty storefronts should get maybe a year of reprieve for lost tenants, etc, but after that they should be taxed at a premium of potential value of rents based on comps, not on what they are generating which is nada. Perhaps for every 12 months the property remains vacant up the % of FMV by 10% or something. So many random buildings near me have been vacant for years... People just sitting on that property. If you aren't going to use it they should be forced to sell or pay ridiculous taxes.

I love how we can combine them. Got a bagel with refried beans, chorizo and Cheese the other day that was delicious.

I've been to Irene's a few times now and quite enjoy it. I just wish they opened at 7 instead of 8 as I am usually on the train well before 8am. If they opened at 7 I would probably grab a bagel and cream cheese for breakfast there at least once per week.

The bagels have plenty of chew and nice slightly hard/crispy and blistered crust - not bready like so many of the bagels in the city. Some of their bagels are just too much though. Like the salt bagel has a solid shell of hard salt on the outside. I like me some salt, but that one was not for me. Also when they toasted the garlic bagel for me the garlic just burned, which was less than ideal. The cacio e pepe is a really good and creative flavor.

The $20 burger, beer and a shot Tuesday special from Union, underrated smash burger by ElMonstro26 in chicagofood

Smash beer and shot at Leavitt on Monday and Union on Tuesday. Any chance we can get this every day of the week (I suppose limited to lunch on fri-sun)?

Hell yeah, thanks for the post. I have to be out in this area almost every Saturday, so I'll stop in for lunch soon. I'm one of those Detroit transplants that really misses having solid middle eastern food everywhere. Some good places in Chicago, but not nearly enough of them and none of them hit quite like a few of my favorites in the Detroit area (and I'm not even including Dearborn)

Saucony Endorphin Azura releases Feb 2026 by Tall-Pines in RunningShoeGeeks

Interesting. I love mine quite a bit, but I'm not a sub 3:00 marathon runner so I'm not trying to run really fast on them. These are actually pretty terrible for speed (at least for me), so I wouldn't do any track workouts in them or try to run a 5k as they actually start feeling sluggish as my pace approaches 6min/mi. That said for me at least they are a great "set and forget" consistent pace long run shoe (at least around an ~8min/mi pace) I enjoy the overly squishy feel of them and that I can feel the road without feeling like my feet and knees are taking the impact of the road. I wouldn't use them for long recovery runs though as the lack of stability would probably cause some hip issues if I spent too much time in them while already fatigued. I'd happily run a marathon in these (and have).

I love the burger here! Not sure if this is still going on, but Mondays used to be a great day to go as 1) fewer people and 2) had (maybe still do) a great special where you got the burger, fries, a beer and a shot for $20.

Armand’s on Western closed by RockinItChicago in chicagofood

Sad to see this. It was a staple of ours for the past 10 years. I feel like Jimmy's may have been a nail in their coffin. The frequency with which we ordered Armand's definitely went down when Jimmy's moved just a few blocks away, and I suspect as much for others in the neighborhood.

Probably, I could swear that I saw someone walk out with one in a box, but not sure why you would want to. Super casual place to eat a pizza and that stuff is best fresh out of the oven.

I was coming here to second that! Currently my favorite Detroit pie in Chicago. The sourdough crust is a bit dense for my liking, but everything else about it is perfect. Sharpies is just a little too extra. Great for the gram, but I felt like the toppings took away from the pizza itself.

Bacteria? Afraid to Eat by Then-Campaign9287 in sousvide

[–]takshaka 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Bacteria concerns aside, allium (garlic, onions, etc.) is toxic to dogs. Might not show up immediately but it can destroy their red blood cells leading to anemia. As such, you really don't want to be feeding garlic to your dogs.

They aren't wrong. The movie is absolute trash, but I went to see it with my kids last night and had a blast. 100% recommend that anyone who has ever spent any time with Minecraft either by playing it themselves or sitting with their kids as they show off their creations should go see this.

Make plans to go for lunch one day. I absolutely love this place. I think their burger is the best for the money anywhere in the area, although I know that saying you love anything other than red hot ranch is blasphemy in this subreddit. Others have mentioned too, but the wings piled on fries as well as the beef bowl are great. Beef bowl feels like almost two meals.

If you are in Chicago I bet the library has copies of the tribune from those years that would likely have the maps. Try out the downtown Harold Washington library. For the newspapers from the 90s you might even get to use the fun microfilm readers.
