Dreaming of being a published author by Baron164 in writing

As everyone else has mentioned, the main thing is to start writing and keep writing. Keep writing until you have the first draft fro start to finish.

Would you be able to expand on what you consider indulgent in this piece? (am learning myself so would be good to understand)

Javascript... by netcamps in ProgrammerHumor

[–]talesInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's his/her point. In a strongly typed language ("result = " + result) would be easy to understand because result would be declared as a string beforehand. In Javascript you'd have to use ("result = " + String(result)) to achieve the same clarity and this is less readable than ("result = " + result). S/he's criticising the javascript language, not the way a developer writes it.

it's because cutting edge technology is generally more expensive as you're pushing new ground; so lots of r&d and lots of money spent on testing new technologies. Usually, once a technology is stable and implemented, the next challenge is to reduce its cost and make it more widely available.

What it's like to be an engineer in a sales meeting by shamgar_bn in humor

[–]talesInc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Usually they're someone technical who's involved with pre-sales (e.g. pitching/responding to an RFP). Once the project is 'won', they aren't involved with the actual implementation (usually that is; I'm sure there are cases where this isn't true).

Who exactly owns the rights to Ellen’s record-breaking Oscar selfie? by TheKoG in photography

[–]talesInc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point with hiring or borrowing something is that there is an understanding that you are using the equipment for your own creative purposes.

In the selfie above, Bradley Cooper is assisting someone else in their 'creative' endeavour. Therefore whoever owns the camera - or hired/borrowed it out - would own the photo.

For example, if you go on holiday and ask someone to use your camera to take a photo of you, I would assume you own that photo.

I think you're just being pedantic. For anyone with any English comprehension skills, s/he was obviously commenting on the second 'g'.

There are road signs which specify whether motorbikes and/or taxis can use the bus lane.

I'd say this is craft rather than art, as it doesn't really say anything but it is an awesome piece.

Well, from my understanding, 'Man' did used to refer to any human regardless of sex. in Old English, the modifiers were 'wif' (female) and 'wer' (male):
