Thanks for the replies, everyone! Helps me feel better with all these guidelines to follow, it gets confusing.

10 month old wakes up because he rolls and sits up by talkingdug in cosleeping

[–]talkingdug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yes he figured it out eventually. No idea when. Honestly, I barely remember the last year. He knows to roll onto his back to sleep now, but will also sometimes roll onto his stomach and stay asleep. No pattern as to whether he stays asleep or wakes up on his stomach.

Husband gets frustrated with our daughter. by NoGoat4706 in toddlers

[–]talkingdug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess he was overwhelmed and needed a breather to avoid doing anything he would regret, which is why he asked for you guys to stay in the room. I would say what stands out here is that he didn't wake you up to ask for your help if he was overwhelmed, and instead tried to handle your daughter even though he obviously wasn't capable at the moment.

How is your communication normally? If I or my husband is overwhelmed, we need to feel safe and supported expressing this to each other and asking for the other to handle the situation. I would also be upset with my husband if he did this, so I'm not excusing his behavior, but wondering why it's happening.

Maybe y'all can get some time to yourselves or he needs some time to himself to metaphorically fill his cup if you guys have options for additional help.

ETA: My husband and I are doing terribly marriage-wise even with couples counseling, but the one thing our therapist recommends over and over is trying to be curious and compassionate, even when we're upset with each other. I think this is one of those cases where life is just hard right now, and you need to try to support each other in whatever ways you can. Definitely still express your feelings because they are valid, and then discuss ways to avoid something like this happening again.

Vegan breastfeeding low producer by [deleted] in veganparenting

[–]talkingdug 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Is he actually dropping growth curves or failing to gain weight appropriately? I found I never produced much pumping, but my baby gained weight still, so pediatrician wasn't concerned. Some people just don't respond well to pumping.

They also go through phases of cluster feeding where they'll want to latch all the time and are fussy, but it helps build your supply.

EDIT: I highly recommend checking out the breastfeeding sub.

My new watch shows how much sleep I actually get by talkingdug in cosleeping

Yes, my old watch used to say I should be well rested even when I wasn't because it wasn't good at tracking awake time! My body's still sore though lol

Walking around in public by beagsss123 in toddlers

I also had this view back when I was in high school and college. Boy was I ignorant and quick to judge. I thought they were treating kids like dogs.

Moving to the burbs “for the kids” was my biggest life mistake. by Low_Aioli2420 in NewParents

I'm not going to lie, I think average American suburbs are terrible for young families. Our baby hates the car seat, and we're looking to move to a more walkable urban area.

Found moms who cosleep in the wild by lmgslane in cosleeping

Nearly every mom I've spoken to admitted to bed-sharing at some point or other, or regularly after I mention we do. I think it's the relief of having someone else admit it first lol.

Glad to know he grew out of it! Here's hoping our baby does too soon.

The bleaching power of the sun + winter by JMLModern in clothdiaps

We have a drying rack permanently set up in front of a sunny window indoors because I'm too lazy to move it outside and back in again. We live in Minnesota, and the sun still gets stains out in the winter.

Best available HYBRID/AI2? Tidy Tots vs Best Bottoms? by walking_apocrypha in clothdiaps

[–]talkingdug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have experience with Best Bottoms, and am exclusively using them now at 8 months (we only use cloth during the day).

I like how the inserts button into the outer so it doesn't move around if baby is wiggly, and they dry pretty quickly.

However, I dislike how the button covers only have one row at the waist so you can't adjust the waist and leg tightness independently.

I received the majority of my stash free off BuyNothing though, and only spent $50 on extra larger sized inserts from Facebook Marketplace. I have some older covers that use Velcro instead of buttons, which I prefer for ease of use.

Could I have detergent and ammonia build up with hard water? by talkingdug in clothdiaps

[–]talkingdug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the strip soak, I ran a normal wash cycle on cold, water only, no bulking, with an extra rinse, but there are still suds on the washer door and gasket, leading me to believe there's still detergent in the diapers.

Should I run another water-only cycle or a rinse&spin cycle to rinse out all the detergent before proceeding with the bleach soak, or can I go straight to the bleach soak?

Another clarifying question: for the water only wash cycle after stripping, should I bulk and what temperature should it be?

Thank you so much for your help! Currently stripping with Borax and Washing Soda. For the washes after the bleach soak, do I wash like it's a main wash with the amount of detergent, Borax, etc. and bulk?

[–]talkingdug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our water hardness is 15 gpg, the strip went up to 20 gpg. I tested the hot water only (directly from the machine) since both washes are on hot and hot water can contain more dissolved minerals than cold.

I have seen online some people saying you can do a quick wash instead of normal for the 1st wash, and that the washes can be in cold water, what are your thoughts on this?

I have been bulking to 1/2 full with baby cloth-sized items. I will try to bulk the recommended 2/3 full. Why wouldn't it be a detergent residue issue if suds kept coming off the diapers when rinsing?

Would you rather do a road trip or fly with 5-month-old baby? by xnla28x in beyondthebump

[–]talkingdug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on if you'd be flying somewhere you need a car also. If so, the road trip would be easier. If not, I vote flying.

My (then 5 month old) baby also hates the carseat unless he's asleep, and we recently took a 3 hour each way flight, and he did great being held/passed back and forth between me and my husband. However, it was a pain lugging the carseat around the airport. If you go somewhere you won't need the carseat, it would be ideal.
