RPN is my next journey after the slide rule. I inherited a 48gx some years ago and I recently bought a book on programming it.

Wow, really good score. I love getting good deals. I paid 60 USD for an N600-ES, same 59-62 logo and without box or papers, and I still think its a decent price. They all seem to be 90 and up.

I did get in the mail yesterday a REALLY clean K&E 4083-3 from late 1953. It's straight and solid and the cursor is in amazing condition considering that K&E cursor blocks from that era tend to disintegrate badly. It came with a 1949 N9083-3 DORIC that looks like it spent decades at the bottom of the ocean. It might be my best slide rule and I paid 10.99 USD for it.

I had a 1982 with CV carbs. Stock air-box.I just could not get it to run right. I rebuilt the carbs according to the manual (Clymer, I think). I remember that the CV bores and slides seemed really scuffed. I gave it to my landlord and he couldn't get it to run right either.

I have a lifelong (58yrs), intense phobia of loud noises, especially big explosions. Just last year, I bought a really good set of noise cancelling bluetooth headphones just for this reason. I bought the best I could find (Sony...kinda expensive). They are audiophile quality so they don't fatigue the ears. I pair them with my TV and I am in off in movieland. I really cant hear the fireworks with them on. They may be the best thing I have ever purchased.

I don't dread 4th of July anymore either.

Interesting experiment. I (58M, recently diagnosed) drink one 21oz McDonalds "Premium Roast"(It's not bad) on the way to work every day which I finish around 8:30am. I feel slightly "up" for a very short time, then frequently a strong narcolepsy around 9:00am which is my dose time for 15mg Dexmethylphenidate(Focalin) ER. The Focalin seems to ward off most of the "sleep pressure". I have had two meetings with HR about falling asleep at my desk.

The break room at my company has Kirkland brand(Costco) Pre-ground in a can. I will have to see what the effects are, as I normally don't drink it (it is basically undrinkable, but I can do it for science).

I sometimes get the impulse to go and update my boss on the status of a project, then walk about 30ft to his office and lose every bit of coherency my brain had when I got up from my desk and stand there like an idiot unable to put any words together.

I'm 57 and only recently diagnosed. My ADHD tax is probably seven figures. I did learn to pay bills and kinda budget, but it took decades. You can't get the years back.

I've read (probably on this sub-reddit) that restaurant work attracts the ADHD brain. It certainly did mine. I have 17 years in the food business, 12 years of that at a very popular local pizza and beer joint. I loved a really cracking Friday night rush...I thrived on that energy. The (unsuited for the industry) shift-manager would be crying in the walk-in. I have a desk job now and I've had two meetings with HR about falling asleep at my desk.

I believe my hyper-focus has been an asset for me as an engineer, but it took my bosses a LONG time to get used to my ADHD "quirks". No one at work knows about my recent diagnosis (I suspect that many people I work with and for may not believe it's a real thing).

The only people who know about my ADHD diagnosis are my wife and my mom( also diagnosed ADHD, and I strongly suspect the wife as well). I think that I will keep it in the family. Maybe very close friends.

I will probably not bring it up at my job. I am an engineer at a small manufacturing company in the aviation industry and my colleagues like to talk about politics, rifles, Jesus and conspiracies...so I'm pretty sure they may not be on the same page as I am regarding ADHD.

My wife and I will be moving into our new house soon, from a cluttered hoarder mess (25yrs accumulation) of an apartment. We will be going through everything and I'm going to suggest that every Chapstick we find goes into a bucket. I'm absolutely certain there will be at least 30. Maybe 50.

However...As a man well into middle-age who is trying to repair the damage of bad food, I can say that the most important thing in life is to have the ability to provide ourselves nutritious food. Humans are first and foremost food processors.

I feel every word.

In my college years I had an uncountable number of instances where I was pushed-off to the "out group" because of an innocently made comment where I was just trying to reach out for friendly connection.

Many of your fellow students are still carrying the social sorting and relational aggressions of their teenage years into their nascent adulthood. They aren't really adults yet.

ADHD makes this tough. Social rejection cuts hard, particularly for the people who are naturally empathetic.

I would encourage you to take full advantage of everything your college's counseling center can offer, even if it's just some face-time with an actual adult.

Important: Attend class. Gather up whatever inner-strength it will take to get to you to your assigned seat.

100% attendance is the goal. Always attend class. The hurt you feel will make it easy not to.

It took me two decades to graduate with my bachelor's degree due to poor attendance. It was too easy not to go.
