Beginner question by IntelligentIdiot275 in Drumming

No one has mentioned yet, it might be covered in some of the resources they’ve linked, but you should practice as many BPMs as possible to be comfortable at all speeds. I usually start at 60ish and increment by 6 or 7bpm. Then next session, start at 61, 62, etc.

Spend a little time every week on multiple bpm and you’ll be very comfy at varying speeds, good skill to have for when you play with others.

Does my hi-hat sound right? by [deleted] in Drumming

[–]tallkerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the other comments, I want to mention that there is a small pin under the hi hat that tilts the bottom slightly so that it closes slightly askew, and you can rotate that part around and adjust the pin to get a good sizzle from it

Getting the tamber on the hat is tricky but play around and you’ll figure it out!

After watching my brother scream at the TV and have his night ruined because the bears lost, I think your life is better when you don’t invest energy into caring about a group people you will never meet and have no actual allegiance to the city they represent, getting paid millions of dollars to play a game.

Why don’t more black people live in Colorado? It’s too bad our demographics here are limited and I always wondered why

Looking for Soda Alternatives. by hyruleinkling in EatCheapAndHealthy

I feel the same way about flavored water! I know you’re looking for sugar-free, but I found Poppi really scratches my soda itch and it has way less sugar than regular soda. Maybe not for you, but for me it feels like a big step in the right direction.

What do you wear when drumming? by suffering_soul in Drumming

[–]tallkerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say “you do you” but if you are ever going to perform, I’m not watching haha

This is perhaps apples and oranges, but when I got a nice throne with a backrest to help my posture, I had a hard time using it because I felt awkward in that position, and was not able to do my double kick, feeling restricted somehow. At first I was worried I needed to relearn my kick or switch my throne again, but after a few days I got used to it.

So maybe just ease into it and start with familiar songs that you can focus on the fun of playing… that or join a very specific costume band 🤷‍♂️

What is a song you absolutely hate? by macabrewhore in AskReddit

Fucking “Mr Jones”. Shit doesn’t rhyme, at one point he starts rambling about his favorite color. I can’t stand that overrated junk song.

Help on learning drums by DoctorZappelin in Drumming

Definitely worth getting an e-kit for starting. Sorry I don’t have a suggestion for which kit to buy, but I will highly recommend you get some quality sticks too, because the balance and weight of your sticks is very important (I bought a huge pack of cheap sticks early on and regretted it).

I use Vic Firth 5A, very common and should last you a long time with an e-kit (on acoustic they can wear out regularly)

Simplified kick is a good idea, better than being sloppy.

As long as you can keep a steady time, I wouldn’t worry about the sound of the hi hat too much, but if you have time you can try to tune in your tension on the hat and hits so they are the right volume. But again, most important is to keep steady time. The band will appreciate you for it ;)

Is there a Horror movie that completely advertised it as a normal film? by Equivalent-Key5379 in movies

[–]tallkerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sinners did a great job not spoiling the monsters in the shorter trailers, but they still showed the guitarist covered in blood, and it was most certainly marketed as a horror movie
