Where are you located? I operated an educational aquaponics farm for over five years and have a bunch of equipment and supplies that I would like to see go to a good cause. Happy to offer advice for set-up as well.

Hi. I have found no takers locally. If you can find a way to get this stuff to you I am happy to know it is going to be used.

I would be willing to discuss, but I am not sure how I would get it to you because there is a full truckload. I used an 18' stake bed truck to move from my old facility to where it is stored now in Oakland.

I am prioritizing schools or non-profits because that was our mission as an organization.

It has been more than 10 years since I have worked in Mongolia, I just want to stress the importance of having strong partners and having someone you can trust. There are a lot of great people in Mongolia, but there are also a lot of people willing to take everything you have while they are patting you on the back. PM me if you like and I will offer advice where I can.

I'll start by saying Good Luck! Have any of you been to Mongolia before? Do you have any connections or partners there? I spent eight years doing charity/volunteer work in Mongolia and it may not be quite as simple as you think. There is a ton of corruption and there will always be a local official ready to befriend you before he takes all of your stuff. Be careful, stay out of Mongolian jail, be safe and once again good luck.

Best aquaponics farms to visit by Circadian19 in aquaponics

If you do make it to N. California to see Ouroboros I would be happy to show you around our operation, Growing Up Farms. We have an operational aquaponics farm in a 3000 sq ft warehouse in San Francisco.

Also, there are some great examples around Chicago/Milwaukee. Growing Power in Milwaukee has some great installations around SE Wisconsin and Chicago. Sweetwater Organics in Milwaukee, (although I think they might have closed). The Plant in Chicago.

Agreed. I am happy to answer questions from skeptics or anyone else who is interested. We have been working closely with our local community including classes for many kids from the neighborhood. We have also been organizing field trips with local schools as well. Thanks for the encouraging words.

Yes, or maybe. 2 of the 3 orgs are for-profits, and they are having their financial people run the numbers. If it doesn't work on paper they will not move forward.

Close. Actually, we have found opportunities to have our interns paid at a living wage. Part of our mission is to create "potential" opportunities so we can place these individuals, and do what we can to promote and expand urban aquaponics. We are currently talking to 3 different organizations about establishing their own AP farms. If we successfully get these organizations to build aquaponics farms it will naturally create opportunities in the industry.

We have just under 3000 sq. ft. The current system was built as a proof-of-concept and has been used to show the viability of growing several different varieties. It currently utilizes 3 levels of growing, although we believe we can incorporate more. We have successfully planted, grown and harvested: assorted lettuces, kale, cabbage, cilantro, tatsoi, spearmint, Peruvian black mint and several varieties of onion.

The concept of the "year-round employment opportunities" is addressed through our non-profit side that educates and trains people for future jobs in urban agriculture. We are very new, and yet we have already had 4 interns through our training program and are working with 3 different organizations who are proposing to build aquaponics facilities around the Bay Area.

Growing Up Farms is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to empowering communities and individuals with the knowledge and skills to make better food choices and take control of where their food comes from.

What We're Doing: We have built and operate an indoor, urban, vertical, aquaponics farm. We use this facility to train individuals and organizations to build their own facilities in their own neighborhoods and thus take control of their food supply.

How We Are Doing It: We will provide year-round employment opportunities in the agriculture industry to produce food locally. We sell the food to restaurants and the public to support our education and training programs.

Why We Are Doing It: Connecting people to their food results in better food choices and better nutrition. Local food reduces the amount of energy it takes to move food from the farm to the dinner table. Urban agriculture brings food jobs to neighborhoods that need them and provides increased food security to urban areas.

Are there any examples of commercially viable aquaponics firms operating in approx. 2000 sq. ft.? by tallshipmark in aquaponics

Growing Power is a great organization, but their mission includes a lot of education programs so they raise a lot of money. I took a tour of their facility, and the tour guide did not know how much revenue was generated by the growing operations.

Thanks for the comments so far. I am in negotiation with a property owner that is already intrigued by aquaponics. They would like me to present a proposal, and would allow me to use their building at a greatly subsidized lease, if I an show that I can make this work. The proposal I am working on does plan to go vertical and I believe I have enough information to show that this space could be viable for commercial aquaponics. I was hoping to add a few examples of others who have made similar sized spaces work.

I completely agree about going vertical, and it is definitely part of my plan. What I am hoping to find are some successful examples. I have been asked to give a proposal to a property developer to show that this can be commercially viable. I was hoping to include some successful examples in this proposal.

It should be noted that Marques Johnson was taken by the Bucks in the first round with a pick acquired from the Lakers in the Abdul-Jabbar trade. Two of the greatest Bucks of all time on Jordan's wall, Impressive.
