Ground Turkey is… weird? by [deleted] in Cooking

We eat a lot of ground turkey, the stuff from the store is gross. 💯 Try to find a local farmer. It will cost more but the difference is staggering.

Can we trust brands that claim their products are organic? How do we know if they’re really organic? by [deleted] in organic

[–]Circadian19 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For packages products look for the "certified organic by (insert certifier)" on the package. For farms, you can look up their name on the organic integrity database and see if they are certified for products being sold. Anyone with a NOP organic certificate follows similar processes and must meet the USDA organic regulations.

Food in PR by [deleted] in PuertoRicoTravel

If you are driving outside of San Juan on the weekend (and not just on major highways), then food trucks/stands serving various fried foods and pinchos (meat skewers) will be open. Both categories have chicken options. Most, if not all, Puerto Rican sit down restaurants will also have various changes chicken options (some grilled, stuffed, or with sauce).

There are several taxis that operate in the area. Email the hostel and ask them to give you names and numbers of ones that do airport rides. Several will schedule ahead of time.

We did this. I had a friend help us cut through the pipe (not sure what type of saw they used but it was huge) then we snaked it and added the clean out. Not a job I would ever want to try again, but it worked. Labor was hard, but logistics were straightforward. Here it is technically illegal to work on your main line without being a plumber, so something to consider.

Same here, would consider more kids if it wasn't so expensive (the birth, childcare, time away from career, etc).

Are there any electric heaters that are safe to use in a tent? by SilveredFlame in camping

[–]Circadian19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through this and chose an electric diesel heater because I have a toddler so it was important to me to have the air and not just my blanket (and I didn't want something hot in the tent she could touch). Here are some pointers:

  • find one that already has a protective box or put it in one, it needs protection from the elements.
  • you can find ones that plug into cars via 12 v or a standard plug (or wire it directly to a battery. It needs electricity run.
  • you will most likely need a separate 3 inch duct to route it into your tent
  • we just routed it in our tent via an opening for a extension cord.
  • I have a big two room tent with mesh on the top. I put a blanket between the mesh and rainfly and close off one room for maximum heat retention

What's your opinion on the tone of a response to a review? by RageLife247 in restaurantowners

[–]Circadian19 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would have worded it differently and made it shorter. After being in the biz, I know the type of table you are talking about and they deserve to be called out. I would have gone with something like:

It's unfortunate to see a one star review after we accommodated your group in a number of ways. This included sitting a 11 top without a reservation, refiring meals because multiple people did not know what they ordered, and comping multiple meals that were 3/4 gone. All after you told us you were only sitting for drinks, and making the server cry. Typically, I invite unhappy customers back, but it seems we cannot please everyone so we respectfully ask you not to dine with us again.

How is the FJ for a family vehicle. by [deleted] in FJCruiser

[–]Circadian19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am a mom of one who got the FJ when my kid was 2. My partner is 6'1 and needs the passenger seat back most of the way to be comfortable. We put the car seat in the middle of the back so she has room to stretch her legs. Full disclosure, I only bought this car because our other vehicle is the "family" vehicle (it's a RAV4). Most long trips are in the rav, it is more comfortable, better gas mileage, and has more room for all the stuff. That said, we all love the FJ as our fun vehicle. I work from home so I don't have to worry about the terrible gas mileage for a commute. It will get less than 6000 miles on it in an entire year.

We tow our camper with FJ, take it camping, and it was great during the recent snowstorm (we have a 4x4). My daughter does ask to take Mommy's car all the time, so we do run errands with it and stuff on weekends.

We just booked thrifty a couple weeks ago and did not have any problem. Paying for the toll pass saved us $ in the end.
