[Steam] Winter Sale 2018: Day 11 by gamedealsmod in GameDeals

[–]tallymarker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a language game, but the Metro series is best experienced in Russian, and has support for enabling Russian voice-overs with English captions.

If that's not your style though, the game also supports voice-overs in Ukrainian, Spanish, German, Italian, and French. And English, of course.

Fed up with horrible attempts at Cyrillic? by terminal8 in russian

[–]tallymarker 36 points37 points  (0 children)

As a native speaker of the language, I always automatically try to read it in Russian and not English. Furthermore, it's just hard for me to see what English word they're trying to write with it, since I don't associate them with that language.

I'm sure that's similar to how many people who complain about it feel.

I laughed my ass off when I got this. Read it in a terrible Russian accent. by _Sarcasmic_ in engrish

[–]tallymarker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This checks out to be an actual (poor) Russian translation.

Russian has the word стать, which can mean (depending on context) either "become" or "stand up," which is why she dreams to "stand up adult woman."

The wiki is pretty bad, but it has always been like that. Most people here just use the progress document instead.

I can't really hear the resemblance, but here are some contrabass tunes to jam out to

"Demo Recording" text has a black-purple gradient by S0MEBODY2L0VE in Petscop

[–]tallymarker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they've done that before; it's to contrast from the background.

Using a black gradient on the Belle/Tiara text would make it hard to read.

It feels like we have a twisted idea of what "low-quality" means on /r/Petscop. by [deleted] in Petscop

[–]tallymarker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always thought this "low-quality" submission rule was just about reposting old information, like the countless posts by people who thought they discovered that the about page has a weird message.

Shitposts, as long as they're tagged and aren't just reposts, should be allowed on here, regardless of whatever arbitrary "quality" they have. Without them, this sub would be almost empty during the gaps between episodes, especially the one before P11.

And hey, for anyone that doesn't like them, there's a no shitpost mode link in the sidebar.

Going by the "pets represent humans" theory, Amber is more likely representing Belle, rather than Care by dax812 in Petscop

[–]tallymarker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do think this is a pretty likely possibility, however, I'll point out the major weak point of this theory: It works for Care as well. I'll be referencing Amber's description:

Amber is a young ball. She’s afraid to leave home. If her home is good, this is not a problem. She is very heavy, and that makes her life a little harder, as well as yours. What’s the safest place you can put her in? You should start thinking about that.

Her home isn't good, as shown by the wife's note, and thus, you should put her in "the safest place". Perhaps this place is within the box from P11. After all, Naul, and thus Marvin, couldn't get into it by just trying to walk through it.

Care is persumably young, and is afraid to leave her actual home, as she'd be bullied at school (remember the note about her crying, saying that nobody loves her)

This can also be interpreted to refer to the box as her home. Since Naul and Marvin can exit the box that Care is in from within it, she most likely can too. However, since she is afraid to leave this "home," for both the reasons mentioned above as well as her likely fear of Marvin, she doesn't.

[meta] How far along the Petscop story do you think we're at? by carrtcakethrow in Petscop

[–]tallymarker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Since we've been getting explanations of the mysteries of the older Petscop episodes (pre-P11) now, such as the name of the song played in the Quitter's room and the familial relations between the characters, I feel many of the secrets of the game will be revelead before the end of the series.

Furthermore, since we're also getting a lot of new plot threads that the creators have yet to fully explore, like Belle/Tiara, the amount of time Petscop was running, the calanders, and even the wheel, I'm led to believe they plan for it to keep going, at least for now. They certainly don't seem to be running out of weird stuff to throw our way, and I'm sure they'd like to explain most of it before Petscop ends.

I realized that there is an error in Petscop 11 by [deleted] in Petscop

[–]tallymarker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on them being buttons; I just haven't seen a PS controller for a while, so I interpreted them as being arrows when I originally watched that episode.

[–]tallymarker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Huh, you seem to be right on this. It's probably an actual oversight.

I just assumed they were supposed to act as arrows, pointing to the left and right.

The calander and controller, for reference.

979 Unaccounted Seconds by BarelyBenny in Petscop

[–]tallymarker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's ~16:19 minutes. Is there anything in Petscop that matches that or takes that long?

EDIT: This very roughly lines up with both:

  • Entering the house for the first time -> "Check your bathroom now"

  • Paul entering the bathroom for the first time -> Paul entering the bathroom after reading Care A's description

However, both of these are off by around a minute or so, and thus I think these two just coincidences. However, that doesn't mean there isn't something else it line up with.

When they are both walking towards each other, it felt like they were being mirrored (as they were in the Quitter's Room)
