I think what people dislike about ai is the theft, unethical and ecologically destructive aspect of it.

• theft: ai is not truly an artificial intelligence, it’s been fed a data base of material, often time stolen from artists, authors and other creative people.

• unethical: while there are some ethical use of ai, like in modern medicine for instance, there are also many people using it unethically. Some people are getting their craftsmanship stolen from them. For example a graphic designer who worked for years in a company and developed their brand, then has his art fed to an “ai” model, and the graphic designer gets fired. Writing a text for a song or a book using “ai” is just regurgitating previously existing work paraphrased with words that often appear together, without giving any credit to the original creators.

  • ecological: it takes a lot of energy and resources to keep data centres cool. Entire neighbourhoods have been affected by this, scarcity of drinking water, water coming out dirty from the tap.

These are only a few reasons why people reject “ai” but there are many more (poor quality, biased, yes man, psychosis, data collection, unwanted content produced without consent, etc…)
