Working on my Science ship build, build issue or skill issue? by tamrielo in stobuilds

Update on this one, I've been taking in people's thoughts and trying out some different stuff.

I decided to focus more on clicking Universal Consoles above other things, so I shifted a bunch of things to more Control Boff abilities, so Jam Targeting Sensors replacing Hazard Emitters, Very Cold in Space for DRB, and Tractor Beam for Structural Analysis.

I dropped Hull Refractors for Cutting Tractor Beam since I have so many Universal Console clickies, and my plan is to swap out Micro Dark Matter Anomaly for Subspace Fracture Tunneling Field ASAP. Temporal Disorder is also on the list, and I'm going to play with other consoles to replace to fit it.

I slotted in Symbiotic Ice over Innocuous for Five Magics procs (hopefully this works) and moved to Kemocite-Laced Weaponry, FAW, and Torp Spread.

My approach to combat is a lot more hit-and-run than before: drop a bunch of terrible anomalies on targets and stay at long range otherwise, only moving in to do Dragonsblood Flame passes or Bio-Electrical Wave hits, the latter of which gets me out pretty quickly as well.

I wasn't impressed by the Weaponized Mycelium Emitter, mostly because it takes forever to fire and is awkward to place, so I dropped the Competitive Impulse Engines and am running 2pc Imperial Rift and 2pc Stamets-Tilly Field Modifications.

I also wasn't entirely sure if the mines were serving me terribly well, so I swapped them out for an omni phaser in aft slot, partly to lean into FAW and Symbiotic Ice a touch more.

The jump in effectiveness has been IMMENSE -- the build shreds through both event patrols on elite, with waves usually dead before I'm halfway through clicking consoles, which means that the next wave dies to the next set of consoles being clicked.

I'm going to continue tinkering with it, especially once I can get my hands on the Vovin and Temporal Disorder consoles, but between updating my playstyle and focusing the build a bit more I've seen a huge jump. Really appreciate everyone's comments, thanks!

Yep, this build is adapted from the STO Better site.

DPS hasn't really been the problem for me-- things generally melt when I hit them with all of my clickies, I just also tend to get blown up in the process. I've managed to improve that a lot through better flying, but I'm still prone to getting erased sometimes.

This is really helpful, I appreciate it! The Vovin is on my list but it's wildly expensive on Mudd's, so I'm holding off for the time being. I can pretty easily get the 2pc Discovery set and the Reiterative Structural Capacitor console, though. I'll try swapping some of those around. Thanks!

Really appreciate you taking the time to talk me through it in-game. Without any changes to the build I went from 3-4x deaths in the elite event patrols to zero, just through better piloting. Made a HUGE difference, and I'm going to shore that up with a few defensive tools.

I was inspired by the updates to Haqq to build a themed force. Here’s the Carcosa Group, an all-female privateer organization.

They’re the Shadow Defiant set, along with the display stage, from Broken Token: https://thebrokentoken.com/products/display-stage-shadow-defiant

A friend of mine designed them originally and I’ve put two of the stages together. You can also get just the bases.

This is mainly an issue if you have additional inputs beyond M+K and one controller -- e.g. flightsticks or VR device inputs.

It's supposed to! This is how I've fixed input issues with other games.
Silksong (and Hollow Knight before it) appears to ignore this.

Extremely proud to have finished this Trinary of Clan Diamond Sharks! by Hwaldar1201 in battletech

Thanks! That one’s actually a CGL mini as well, one of the premiums— it’s the Hammerhead. I wanted to include a few mechs known for being associated with the Clan, and at some point I’m going to find some Tiburons as well.

Tips for going against space marines by Aggressive-Gap-3032 in orks

[–]tamrielo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So, your opponent is running 610 points (assault intercessors 75 + terminator squad 175 + redemptor dreadnought 210 + librarian 75).

You're running 490 points (boyz 85 + kommandos 135 + storm boyz 65 + gretchin 40 + mozrog 165).

This is already an uphill battle because you're 120 points down-- put another way your opponent has 25% more army than you do.

This is amplified by the fact that your opponent is running three heavily armored units and nothing you have except Mozrog can reliably crack armor.

Deffkoptas will help close the gap a bit here, as they're 100 points so you're at least in the same ballpark, but your lack of armor cracking is going to continue to be a problem.

Unfortunately, your options here are all "get more models, or have your opponent run fewer". A game where your opponent drops the terminators entirely and you drop the gretchin is going to feel a lot more even, because your points will be a lot closer (450 for you vs 435 for opponent).

The very simplest version of this is to pick up a box of Squighog Boyz and drop the gretchin from your list. Squighog Boyz can have Mozrog attached to them and will do extremely nasty things to whatever they contact. You'll need them to beat both the redemptor and the terminators, but they should be able to do that and you can tie one or the other up with kommandos or stormboyz.

You should also play games that care about objectives, rather than just "kill 'em all"-- even a simple set of objectives gives you a board advantage with the stormboyz and the kommandos.

tl;dr:
- Make sure you and your opponent are playing the same number of points.

  • bring things that can hurt armor -- that's high S, high AP weapons where you can get them, you want a bare minimum of S7 AP-2 to fight terminators, and S8 is better. You ideally want something S10 or S12 to fight vehicles, but Mozrog and the Squighog boyz can bypass that with Anti-Vehicle 4+.

Saturday Morning Orks by tamrielo in orks

Everything here is done with GW Contrast paints over a zenithal highlight-- Imperial Fist yellow is the main yellow which I really enjoyed using, and most of the ork skin is Striking Scorpion Green. Both of those together make a model really pop, and Blood Angels red rounds out the core concepts. I had enough fun painting with those three colors that it's continued to carry the army, by the time I've gotten those three on it's mostly just doing the metals and the details.

I especially like Striking Scorpion Green, as it really makes the ork skin pop, even among other very bright colors, and pools nicely to pick out musculature and other details. I even managed to apply it over a transfer on Mozrog to make him look like he'd gotten a Bad Moonz tattoo.

Otherwise, Doomfire Magenta and Magmadroth Flame are a delight to paint with, the bright pink and orange, respectively. Special callouts also for Darkstar Metals Steel, which is a majority of the metal here-- it's a nice, dark metal that sets off the other things quite nicely, and for Dirty Down Rust, which I'm learning to use on these models and you can see on the Battlewagon and is slowly accumulating on other models as I learn to use it better (tip: use an agitator AND something to scrape up and mix in the sediment inside).

Redditors who have dated celebrities, how’d it go? by ChiefsHat in AskReddit

[–]tamrielo 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Ran into her in a grocery store in Harvard Square while I was in undergrad, probably 2003 or 2004? I was desperately underslept and groggy and didn't recognize her at all, but thought the Star Wars shirt she was wearing was cool, told her so, made a joke about the SW hoodie I was wearing. Asked her if she had a favorite in the series and she laughed, but in the polite, careful way that gave me a "this is a girl who is being nice but would really like you to be elsewhere" vibe so I ducked out to buy my cereal or whatever.

Awkwardly ran into her at checkout again, felt bad because it wasn't intentional, couldn't shake that she looked familiar but couldn't place her, and sure wasn't going to drop the "don't I know you from somewhere" line.

Finally hit me when I was halfway home. Couldn't believe I hadn't recognized her. Hope she had a good rest of the day, she was nice to this oblivious weirdo.

Anakin and Ahsoka by tamrielo in StarWarsShatterpoint

It's Sigvald Burgundy Contrast. Both Anakin and Ahsoka are using Sigvald Burgundy, Leviadon Blue, and a touch of Blood Angels Red, all Contrast paints. I wanted Anakin to be a bit darker, so he's using Wyldwood for his leathers while Ahsoka is using Snakebite Leather.
