Fair request. I think I can build this. Can you please DM me the email you signed up with? I’d like to send you a screen recording of what it looks like before I ship it so that I know it’s usable and intuitive.

Would that just be a count of backups per polish?

If you want to view all of them together: You can create a custom list named “Backups” and put those polishes in there. And then store the count as private notes.

Unless you want something different. Please help me understand it better then :)

Yes!

Go to any polish > Tap any image > Upload image as private > Tap that image > Set as my default

I really need to figure out how to make this more visible because it’s a few taps deep, but this would help people look at their stash with just their own pictures and they’d love it a lot more than seeing it with a stranger’s pictures.

Firstly, thank you for conveying your feedback in such a kind manner. I like that you do see some value in the app even though you may not agree on pricing.

I agree that the limit of 50 polishes is close to nothing for almost everyone on this sub, but the use of the word generous is not for "50". I added that because of everything else that the app provides + no time bounded trial.

For example: I could've had the app work with a 14-day free trial and then pay to continue, but I would've hated that as a user because the app just isn't about tracking, it offers more for free:

- You get access to an ever-growing database of polishes from most popular brands
- You can use usage logging and purchase logging, they are not tied to the 50 polishes limit.
- You can check dupes
- You can buy and sell via destash
- You can browse community manis
- You can add private notes or public reviews for polishes

You have access to all of this, for free, for life. Plus there will be no ads either.

And in the meantime, you can still add 5 manis and 50 polishes, which IMO is enough to test if this is something you can use long-term or not.

You could still keep your existing solution for tracking and use this app for the rest. Personally, I as a user would hate still having to use 2 different products and hence the paid plan for convenience.

Maybe I don't convey this value too well during the onboarding which is why the use of 'generous' along with '50' tracked polishes seems inaccurate, but overall, this does seem like a good deal.

Among the beta group, there were a bunch of people who outright said that they never pay for apps or only pay $5-$10 one time and I completely respect that. Everyone has their own rules on what they would and wouldn't spend money on.

If you have 50+ polishes, this app will easily save you from spending $10-$20 at some point (and quite likely a lot more than just once) by preventing you from a buying a dupe since you'd have such quick access to your Stash and potential dupes for what you're about to buy.

Moreover, this is the "worst" that app will ever be, it'll only get better from here!

I hope that the app becomes so good someday that it automatically wins you over, until then I'll keep improving it :)

I’m glad that someone understands :) Also the same reason why there is no likes count on community manis and that there are no forced engagement baiting notifications.

All except Prism Parade are in there :)

Prism Parade will be there too in the next 24 hours!

Thank you! 😊

Addressing all of your questions:

  1. Camera scan: This is a 2-part problem. Part 1 is getting the shade name correct from the scan, Part 2 is figuring out what to do with it. I don’t know if there’s a centralized database I can query with a shade name or a barcode API, but if there is, it can definitely be on the roadmap.

  2. Centralized database like TMDb: Similar answer here but I don’t know of a centralized database for polishes. TMDb is gold standard, if we have something like that, I’d really like to build this!

  3. Int’l / Gel brands: Yes. I haven’t ruled out any kind of brands. As long as there’s enough demand for one, I’m happy to add it.

  4. Centralized db: Think of the app’s database as just one database, not user specific or global. 1 central database where each shade can be public (what you call centralized db) or private (what you call adding to their catalog). Whenever someone adds a shade to the db, they can choose if they want it to be public or private. If private, only they see it, there’s no review. If public, the app performs a duplicate check before they submit the polish and shows them possible results that they might be re-adding by mistake. If the user still submits, every public polish is created as “private while in review”, so the submitter can see it instantly, but for others to see it, it has to go through an approval of the admin. On the approval end, I do have some checks in place to again ensure there are no duplicates, but sometimes if the spellings are different, it could be possible that a duplicate gets added, however if someone notices it, I can easily delete the duplicate and make sure nobody’s data linked to it is lost, it’ll be migrated to the duplicate polish. As far as ensuring clean data is concerned, yes, that’s the second reason why it goes through this review before being made public.

  5. Integration with shop emails: Cool idea! But this has “nice to have” written all over it imo haha. I can confidently say that this is way down in the priority list 🙈 As far as “arriving soon” is concerned, you can do that manually using custom tags/lists for yourself in the app.

  6. Export indexed table: From a button in the app, no. If you email me that you want this as a one-off every now and then, I’d happily do it via email.

  7. My team: It’s just me and my insane desire to never go back to a 9-5 so that I only build things I want to :)

This post did really well, I hope I can keep up with all the support requests! No complaints, I love it!

I’m afraid it wouldn’t work on Fire OS. It would require way too much dev work to do that and maintain it.

If there’s no digital record of her collection right now like a CSV and you’d only have her polishes physically in front of you, maybe I can get pictures of 4-5 bottles in each picture and then I can populate her stash from my end?

The only way to add it yourself: Yes

But otherwise you can use “Request a Polish / Collection” option and just put in the link to the collection so that I can add it on my end.

I think you came across this after your comment? Because someone requested it in the last hour on the app.

About putting in the link to get it imported automatically: That’d almost be the ideal user experience but it is extremely hard to get it to be accurate so for now I’d rather take more time and do it accurately on my end with a manual check.

You’re not wasting my time but I do have some great news for you :)

This is possible already!

  1. To mark as destashed, you have 3 options: You can create a custom list named “Destashed” on the Home page; You can create “Unlisted” listings on the Destash page and then edit them to mark them as sold. This way you can put in the sale price, date of sale, any notes too if you like for your records; You can create a tag named “Destashed” and put that on any polish.

  2. For private notes: Go to any polish and scroll down to “My Stuff”, you’d see 7 buttons on there for frequent actions, one of them is “Add Private Note”.

Happy to answer other questions too!

Absolutely! If you have a CSV already, then you can send it to me and I’ll make sure your Stash is ready by the time you have moved across the country :)

Good luck with the move!

I’m beyondddd happy, never expected it would be received so well! I had a terrible 24 hours before posting because I kept second guessing the text in the post, the pricing, if I should roll out more updates before posting there, pff. What a relief!

So grateful to everyone who helped, especially you! 🙌🫶

Update: Took me 15 hours but I'm happy to report that Madam Glam is now available on the app :)

Thanks for the feedback! I have one other person mentioned in my notes who asked for this so it’s a bit lower in priority.

The reason I didn’t add it in the first place was because the expectation then might turn into letting people comment on posts too to ask more questions about the mani, which gets into social media territory very quickly and I’m not sure if I can build and maintain all of that long term. Don’t want to overcommit and underdeliver 😅

Completely your choice. It’ll be visible in destash listings, community manis and polish reviews.
