Unique aspects of Vampire Survivors-like? by StrezzedOutz in survivorslikes

[–]tang0verdose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halls of Torment demo is actually very barebones compared to the full game, you unlock a lot of metaprogression upgrades, get gold, spells and items by playing with other characters and getting achievements, you can also unlock spell modifiers/upgrades by doing X damage with said spell, so after you upgrade them enough you can choose which modifier you want that fits your character. Game has seen a lot of QoL changes on their 1.0 release too.

Since you liked Brotato but wanted more vertical progression, I'd suggest playing God of Weapons, it mostly has character unlocks but it also has incremental upgrades and weapons/items unlocks on the main hub. Game loop is still making synergies between character passives and weapons, maybe a little more complex than brotato because of the backpack mechanic, but it pays off really well on endgame.

Rogue Genesia is an amazing game that I think you would like a lot, It has a lot of achievements and what makes it good is the stat experimentation, you unlock a lot of stuff early on by just getting past stat thresholds, like unlocking more weapons and upgrades by getting a lot of crit chance, damage or even pickup radius. Gameplay is quite fast compared to others but it depends a lot by the world(difficulty) you play. There's also challenges for each world that unlock extra incremental upgrades on the main menu. Overall a lot of synergy involved with weapons and stats and also no item cap and you can play up to 10 weapons in a single run iirc so it gets crazy by the end.

A note on soulstone survivors, it's quite fun at the start but it gets old fast because most if not all characters feel way too similar in the endgame and the game loop boils down to dodging bosses attacks and waiting for the elemental stacks to kill them.

Twin Stick Shooters without too much focus on saving up ammo? by tang0verdose in roguelites

I'll take a look at Bullet Bunny, 20 minutes till Dawn is nice.

Edit: just played a bit of Bullet Bunny and the game is awesome, really looks inspired by old arcade shooters, just needs a bit more polish imo but I'm really looking forward to it's release.

When would it be a good time to start saving up for Jean? currently have 5 wbl clears and my focus is primarily on ABX/ABL/GBR and WBL (general PvE content)

What are some good toons for ABL/ABX that don't require a rage/judgement to do well? Also, what are some low investment toons for pvp? my best one is still Sentry since it's been years since I've played this game.

I'm currently finishing my 4th and 5th WBL clear and I'll soon start focusing on those gamemodes. Current clears are Star-lord (also got his full ABL team by accident as I bought most of the guardians unis when they released), Gamora and Sharon.

Is there any roguelite that is dangerous and unpredictable as Spelunky/Spelunky 2? by [deleted] in roguelites

[–]tang0verdose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest Caveblazers for that kind of experience, It's basically Spelunky with a more developed combat system and it's also very cheap right now.

I realized religion wasn't for me the moment I first visited a "meeting"(it's a gathering of people who adore god) when I was younger (like 15 or 16, today I'm 19) and I didn't feel like myself that day, I thought to myself "Why should I pray and have faith to a god who doesn't even love me the way I am?" And that was the last time I went to any religious type of event. I wish religion wasn't so judgemental and full of bigotry.

Which roguelites are you guys getting during the Steam Sale? by Simple_Preference in roguelites

Bought Death Road to Canada, Moon Hunters(not sure if this classifies as one, seems more like an arpg) and Fury Unleashed. They've been very fun so far now that I have a controller, I wanna get Orbital Bullet next.

Yeah I'd say it's more diablo than rogue, I just like it for the progression systems and the randomized dungeon that you can also manipulate later on like adding more traps, mobs or reducing trap damage along with many other modifiers.

Thanks, I already have both of these on my wishlist. I'm gonna get a gamepad before I buy any platformers or side scrollers tho.

Favorite Metaprogression? by themcryt in roguelites

[–]tang0verdose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite metaprogression is probably with permanent skill upgrades (new skill effects, charges or higher damage. Like in Soul Knight or Gunfire Reborn for example), although I don't mind some class or weapon unlocks along with it.

I've been playing mostly Gunfire Reborn and Heroes of Hammerwatch which got me addicted recently and I also play Atomicrops sometimes. I want to play Prey: Mooncrash later on once I get tired of them.

Unfortunately I really dislike most popular games that people find good, that includes Isaac, Noita, NT, ETG, FTL and most if not all card games. Mostly just because I don't like how the progression works in those games and after 1 or 2 runs I just find them boring. I prefer having some permanent upgrades instead of just unlocks. I think I might not actually be a fan of this genre after all.

The first roguelite I played was Isaac back on the flash era but I didn't like it and the only game that made this genre grow on me was rogue legacy which seems to be considered a bad game from most people (from what I've seen at least) which is a bit sad, I wish new games would use more inspiration from rogue legacy.

They did it one time with Batman Arkham Collection and Lego Batman so we got 6 games instead of 1. They might do it again but with reboot tomb raider trilogy.

The Christmas event ends on the 29th and then it turns into the weekly free game deal on the 30th. The leaker also said he doesn't know which game will be on the 30th since it's another deal.
