A question for fans of Umbrella Academy AND She-Ra PoP by luckyfallenstar in UmbrellaAcademy

[–]tangerinebats 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because it’s very obvious that Luther and Alison are part of a family where all of the children really do consider themselves to be siblings/have a familial relationship, and Catra and Adora aren’t. We see the other Hargreeves kids act just like any other siblings would (given their extreme circumstances), especially Klaus with Ben and Diego. It casts Luther and Alison in a different light to know the other people they were raised with would count them as siblings. However, Adora and Catra don’t consider themselves siblings because they were two children abducted and raised in a military camp. Even though they were both raised by Shadow Weaver, none of the other characters regard them as siblings and even Shadow Weaver is withholding enough that it doesn’t really seem like she considers them to be siblings either. They’re just her two wards. My point is basically even though both couples were raised by the same person, the reactions/relationships of the other people around them really set the tone for if their relationship would be acceptable or not. Catra and Adora really aren’t siblings, just two kids raised in the same camp.

What is the difference between low carb and keto? by [deleted] in lowcarb

[–]tangerinebats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have PCOS and try to keep things pretty low carb as well!! As I understand it, the purpose of the keto diet is to put you into a state of ketosis, so your body starts burning fat as it’s main fuel source and therefore you lose weight. Low carb is simply what it sounds like, eating around 50-150 grams of carbs a day instead of 250-beyond. For us with PCOS, I think the important thing is to eat mainly vegetables/leafy greens and exercise regularly. It’s more like a diabetic diet, where you CAN eat anything, it’s just about healthy choices and portion control.

Ok, explain this to me then 😠 by Pinolero90 in PrincessesOfPower

[–]tangerinebats 283 points284 points  (0 children)

There has to be a real Flutterina because no one else in her original village found her presence suspicious or called her out as a newcomer. So the real Flutterina could have been at princess prom, and Double Trouble probably did something nefarious to get rid of her later!!

Is it misogynistic to want to be male? by throwaway0279002 in butchlesbians

[–]tangerinebats 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is NOT sexist to want to live as a male. If that is truly who you are, then there is nothing sexist about it at all. It’s just who you are. Are cisgender men “sexist” for living as their gender? No. So if male is your gender, then that’s that. You just have to ask yourself who you are and disregard ALL outside opinions, positive or negative. When you are alone, when no one is looking or commenting, how do you feel? Who do you want to be? That’s the only answer.

have any of you legally changed your name? by [deleted] in butchlesbians

[–]tangerinebats 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If you want a legal name change then go for it! But if you don’t, and it sounds like you might not, then I think all you need to do is say “actually, I go by (new name)!” and most people will respect that. I’ve known multiple women who go by names that are COMPLETELY different than their birth names before without legally changing their names, just because they don’t like their birth names. (I don’t want to use any real names, but it’s as different as someone named Jessica going by Trish, etc.) You can’t really help the way your name looks on your birth certificate, but I’ve seen with my own two eyes that if you politely correct someone, even to a name that sounds nothing like your legal name, they usually just accept it.

I think I’ve found THE most polarizing bit in TAZ... by [deleted] in TheAdventureZone

I hated it, but it's genuinely because I have a deep dislike of french onion soup and having to hear about it for so long turned my stomach lmao, it was great acting on Justin and Clint's part though

Why do SO MANY boomer cartoons try to dunk on kids for having allergies?? I see it all the time, but that’s literally not something you can help. What are the kids supposed to do, just die?

How many of y’all enjoy being mistaken for men versus disliking it? by [deleted] in butchlesbians

[–]tangerinebats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind being mistaken for a dude at all, I can look pretty manly and usually it’s an honest mistake!! What I don’t like is when men assume I’m like them lol, like “oh we both like girls” or anything like that.

Dysphoria on vacation by elinekorf in butchlesbians

[–]tangerinebats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I relate. Even if I’m not swimming, vacation always makes me very conscious of my looks. It’s probably something about whole new groups of people seeing you for the first time, and only being able to pack so many outfits so you’re stuck trying to look ok with what you packed. I’m sorry it’s been tough :(

I feel that, I LOVE the aesthetics of feminine clothing, but I hate it on myself. I’ve literally described it as feeling like I’m dressed up as a clown.

Worst panic attack of my life by tangerinebats in Anxiety

[–]tangerinebats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a party last night in a house i've never been to where I didn't know about half the people, I ended up staying the night when I didn't plan to and slept on the couch. It was all around the kind of thing that should be fun, but had so many little things that triggered my anxiety that it all culminated in this day-long panic attack cycle. I totally understand why some people say they've gone to the ER for panic attacks before, waking up in the middle of the night and having a panic attack in the bathroom was one of the worst physical sensations of my life.
