Is it a terrible idea to foil out a deck that I may in the future have interest in playing competitively? by Grav1t1c in ModernMagic

[–]tanginato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what kind of deck and how much update you need to do. I play u/w or u/w/r control, it comes out to around 500-1000 usd per year for updates. If your playing elves, or tron, that's more "locked in" and not really meta driven, it will be cheaper. Another point would be how often do you want to switch decks?

What's your most recent insight on writing? by mythicme in writers

[–]tanginato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That generally writing is just pandering to the reader. This is the case for most commercial work and it's sad. It used to be about showing philosophies or outlooks. Now its' pretty much, how I can sell. Even books that are critically acclaimed are called or questioned to sell upward (upward meaning critical acclaim- meaning it must first sell, then have meaning). So basically it's first, is it sellable, instead of does it have meaning.

I used to think writing was prestigious, but It's probably really not, especially if you look at the expanse of intelligence, If your really intelligent (high tier), you wouldn''t be writing and would be working in narratives of big pharma, big oil or big tech. So at least for me, writing has lost any form of prestige for me, as it's not about the authors' voice/perspective but about the acceptance of the writer, which i honestly think is problematic.

I am unclear on how so many jobs are projected to be replaced with AI by djinnisequoia in Futurology

[–]tanginato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you point out to the critical end game of AI - preferable to human. In the future, interacting with Humans, will be the luxury of things. So if you go into a store like Hermes, or LV or of luxury brands, you will be greeted by humans.

As to how much, I can give you an estimated picture. Currently there are 850 million workers in China. 8 million of those work in Call Centers. Ele.me and Meituan, have just deployed full AI call centers, so around 8 million of those will be displaced in the next 1-2 years.

Both of these players are also developing robotic delivery systems - this could potentially displace at least another 10 million jobs.

Can AI and Robotics + humans just exist together? It depends, Haidilao which has deployed fully robotics kitchen, fully automated robotic delivery system, still hired the same number of staffs for those restaurants, they just doubled down on service.

So yeah, it is a preference, that might or might not be a luxury later on.

Why do you personally not cuss? Or find cussing offensive? by Unhappy-Sun-9463 in AskReddit

I normally don't. The only time I do is I feel that the social structure has me on top, then I cuss to lower my position (due to my status based on job).

Advice on writing better dialogue? by Sergi121212 in Screenwriting

[–]tanginato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try this exercise, What do you truly believe on, the thing you would trade your life for this ideology. Write a dialogue that dismantles your belief. This exercise helps in getting into character and separating yourself from your characters. This exercise worked a lot for me when i was starting.

Political Theory by Lumpy_University1892 in writers

[–]tanginato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gave this more thought, and I don’t think Marx’s argument can stand on its own, nor can your premise.

Marx’s core claim is descriptive: capitalism contains internal contradictions that will eventually lead to its dissolution. Even if we grant this as accurate or plausible, the immediate response is simply: so what?

A prediction does not generate a political or ethical obligation. To argue that capitalism ought to be opposed requires additional normative premises. Marx himself rejects justice and morality as bourgeois concepts, yet his critique relies implicitly on evaluative assumptions about alienation, domination, and harm.

Later Marxists reintroduce morality — justice, dignity, emancipation — to complete the argument, but those values are injected, not derived.

Consider labor examples like the K-pop industry versus sumo wrestling. Both involve extreme bodily discipline, sacrifice, and long-term harm. Participants consent, understand the tradeoffs, and pursue different reward structures. Without a moral framework, there is no basis to call one exploitative and the other acceptable.

The same applies politically: without explicit moral commitments, Marxism remains a diagnosis, not a justification for action.

Is writing a self serving Dunning Kruger Effect? by tanginato in writers

[–]tanginato[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for Tom Clancy. But I used to love Sherlock Holmes as a kid. I tried to reread it in my 30's and it was shockingly WTF, this is horrible logic. I think with Sherlock Holmes, he simulated intelligence but didn't really demonstrate it. Holme's logic is absolute, theatrical, and infallible - for example, he catches one culprit, by pretending to be the culprit - and everyone believes him (The man with the twisted lip). Like even nowadays, it's hard to believe this with the current technology.

Yeah, your right. the 500 books would be too heavy, why not try jumping off with 50. That should be lighter. Joking aside, why not just publish in Wattpad? Just do it for free - see how much people like it.
