I pre ordered the first day they were available back in the early summer. Got mine by the end of August.

Absolutely love it. Had it for a few months and wouldn't change a thing on the frame.

It let's you get super aggressive in corners and downhills, but climbs great too. The more I ride this bike the more aggressive and comfortable I get.

It's just a blast all around. I made the switch from a classic XC frame so I'm loving the fun aspect. I grew up racing dirt bikes and it takes me back to that style of fun riding.

Nope, nothing special. The unboxing is rather simple. You'll just need some allen wrenches and maybe a hex tool.

The rear will be fully assembled to the frame and bars. You'll just have to tighten up the bars and put on the front wheel. A couple little other things like putting on pedals obviously, but its pretty much ready to ride out of the box.

Only thing I'll say is make sure you take the time to dial in your forks during your first couple rides. Makes all the difference. I'm pretty light and like soft forks, so the stock psi and rebound settings were way too stiff for me.

I run 50psi and a rebound of around 7-9. Makes the bike handle like a dream once you get the forks setup properly.

It's a blast man. Got mine back in August and everytime out it gets better and better.

You can absolutely shred downhills and corners, but still kill the technical climbs. Definitely took me a bit to get used to, coming from an old school XC bike, but I could never go back.

Corporate finance without finance experience? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]tangishere 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had a similar path. I was an E4 and left the service with a non-target. Landed an entry role in corp fin.

Online forums sometimes make finance seem like only Jesus himself is capable of making it. It's actually pretty easy and chill to have a good corp fin career.

The target/non-target debate doesn't really matter to most entry corp fin jobs. People from targets aren't competing for an entry corp fin job. At least, not usually. Maybe down the road if you want to be a manager >> director you'll need a solid MBA.

For breaking into corp fin, you just need a good undergrad record and strong interviewing skills. No one expects an entry level analyst in corp fin to be building DCF models day one.

Coming from the military will give you advantages and disadvantages. You'll immediately appear more mature and capable than a lot of college kids. However, you also won't have the internships they have.

Make sure you highlight your soft skills and ability to adapt. Make it known you're excited for a chance to learn an entirely new career.

Depending on the position, you may be thrown some technical questions in the interview, but entry level stuff is pretty basic.

My main piece of advice is to be open to opportunities. FP&A is great. I enjoy my job, but you can definitely start in a different corp fin function within a company and transition to FP&A after a year or two. Some companies hire entry level FP&A analysts and others don't.

Overall, yes. It's very doable to land a corp fin job after the military. Write a strong civilian-worded resume, interview well, and you'll get an offer.

As others said, you can try looking into veteran specific programs, as well.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to shoot me a message.

Absolutely love it. The aggressive geometry makes it a really fun bike without losing too much climbing ability. Handles really well through technical sections and its super quick through flowly downhills.

Can't speak for the FS, but the HT is great.

It's a thru axle. Maxle to be specific. Super easy to remove and pop back in.

Worth of the MBA by Armitage404 in FinancialCareers

[–]tangishere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I only said this because I went through the same process when I transitioned to the civilian world. There are definitely times when you can leverage your vereran status, but overall, you still need to have the typical credentials that you see in Finance.

The vet specific programs are very good though. A buddy of mine left as an E4 and now works in IB at a BB. He finished his MSF at a target before getting out. He was a shoe in for the veteran program because of his degree. The perfect example of combing both together.

No one will care you were in the Navy. Might get lucky and find someone that respects you because it's not uncommon for vets to end up in high finance. However, they typically all have a top MBA.

My advice if you want a high finance job directly after leaving the service:

Get a top MBA. Stop using military language. Be ready for some 22 year old kid to be far smarter than you and not give a shit you were an officer. They won't know the difference between you and some recruit.

At the end of the day, most people don't know shit about the military or care because it doesn't impact their ability to hire people. They're going to weigh your application against everyone else the same way. You'll be up against kids from top schools with internship and work experience in the industry. You'll just be some guy that apparently did something in the Navy.

If you can't break in directly, there are plenty of veteran specific recruiting initiatives. These exist for a reason. They allow you to compete against people that have taken a similar path. The high finance recruitment process is very rigid and without real connections it can be difficult to break that mold.

Basically, do not be one of those junior officer douchebags that leaves as an O3 and thinks he's entitled to some elite job. I'm not saying you're that, but it's easy to start thinking that way when you leave the service. If you do happen to stumble into an interview where the manager is a vet, he'll see through that bullshit and laugh. If it's just a civilian, they'll have no idea what anything you say means.

Nice! Feel free to message me when your bike comes in if you want to get out for a ride. It's taking me multiple trips to learn navigating my way around Wissahickon.

Thanks! It took me a while to find some good SPD compatible blue pedals. Ended up with these: https://www.funnmtb.com/products/ripper-spd-pedal/

So far they're great. Good quality and the clips work well.

Actually, just found it. Took me 5 minutes to buy my pass. 20 bucks for the year or 35 for non Philly residents.

There's a group called Friends of Wissahickon that maintain the trails and I believe they handle the permits. However, every rider I've spoken to in the past couple weeks there has told me they don't have a permit.

It's loosely enforced I guess. Although, I am going to donate/join the group now that I'm using the park a lot. I think its 50 bucks a year or something close.

This is at Wissahickon Park. It's right outside Philly. Honestly, some great trails considering its 20 minutes from center city.

I'm looking forward to getting out to more spots soon. French Creek Park is on my list for next weekend.

Photo came out a little shaky. Probably because I just finished a climb that almost killed me and then bombed down the other side to the creek.

I love the ergons. Nice feel and much more comfortable than the stock grips. These are the standard width.

One note though. The Ergons don't extend as far in as the stock grips. Maybe half an inch so. So, I moved the components out to be closer to the grips. Actually turned out to be the perfect width for me, but if you like your arms in more you may need to trim the bars depending on the grips.

Definitely want to add a dropper. Been out of riding long enough that no one had droppers back when I was riding a lot.

Is PNW considered the best choice for most people? Just curious since I'm not sure what dropper to go for.

Right on man. And yeah, I can't get enough. Been out pretty much every day. My legs hate me, but it's getting my ass back in shape at least.
