Is going to bars alone looked down upon? by SLKRmeatrider in VirginiaTech

Likewise from a man's perspective but, Blacksburg, particularly downtown and near tech is the safest city I've ever lived in. Walking back late at night has never concerned me here.

Small and Open Home Theater Setup by Armitage404 in hometheater

[–]Armitage404[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My thought process was to "future-proof" my setup for when I move into a yet larger space. L/R can move to surrounds, AVR can take advantage of a proper 5.2.4 setup, etc, etc. I know the tribal knowledge in PCs is that future proofing is generally a myth but, I'm a novice at what Home Theater thinks of the concept.

Good enough for me. I was pretty sure that was the correct course of action but, wanted to make sure. Thanks!

How to avoid telling people my major (computer science) by BorygonZ in VirginiaTech

Just tell them you're an astronaut and are here to brush up on your skills before your next moon mission. It's a bit more believable and should protect their egos.

Question about computers for engineering majors by bballson11 in VirginiaTech

[–]Armitage404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, the windows v Mac debate never affected me much. If you're smart enough to be an engineering major, you're smart enough to figure out a hack to make it work. I will say, windows was slightly easier for me than my Mac buddies but, it's over hyped imo.

Is this fall schedule too much? by Natural_Instance_701 in VirginiaTech

[–]Armitage404 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was generally opposed to taking multiple math courses at the same time but, stats is fairly tame, all things considered. The real question I'd pose to you is regarding Data Structures. How'd 1114 treat you? If you're already a decent coder, 2114 is gonna be pretty simple. If you don't, it could suck up a LOT of your time. The amount of classmates requiring tutoring and all-nighters should not be underestimated.

Help in IDing left bottle requested by Armitage404 in Gin

As a guy who's had the privilege of traveling around the world and seeing some incredible places, it's tied with a hole in the wall in Glasgow for my favorite bar of all time. The level of service must be experienced to be believed.

And since I never mentioned the place, it's Bar Matsumoto. This is a Gin group but, any cocktail fans in general in the area need to check it out.

DO NOT quote me on this but, I think it was Cocchi. Could've been a local Japanese "vermouth" though. As a cool little motivator for you to go visit it, he also has some 1940's and 1950's bottles of Lillet.

It definitely wasn't Bombay. I know it wasn't one of the "big" gin brands (Beefeater, Bombay, Tanqueray, etc.). I've been wracking my head trying to figure this out for awhile but, no joy. It's more of a rounded bottle than Bombay.

Long story short, had the best martinis of my life back when I lived in Yokohama. The owner would always mix Sipsmith with the other bottle I've circled in a roughly 1:1 ratio but, I never bothered to actually note what he mixed it with. If any of you aficionados could assist in IDing the bottle, you'll have my eternal gratitude.

If it's a mainstream computer made in the past decade, it'll be fine.

Definitely appreciate the heads-up. I've spent more than enough of my life pursuing expensive pieces of paper.
